The response was overwhelming, and the journey embarked upon — profound. In 1995 DeAnna coined the term ‘INNER MAIDEN’ as a result of recognizing the … [Read more...]

Gender Matters – To Me and To Development
G-SPOTS Preetha Prabhakaran says: If asked to pick on one single moment or event in my life that has been influenced by my gender, I would find it an impossible task. This is because gender has worked like an invisible force, underlining my actions and behaviours for as long as I can remember. It claimed me at birth, like a second mother, and it has lived with me ever since. It has been a constant voice in my head, shaping my sense-of-self and moulding my capabilities, limitations, … [Read more...]

ADELE BUTLER – Women of Spirit: No Honor in Murder
THERE IS NO HONOR IN MURDER I never knew that there was such a thing as "honor killing" until I learned about it from Equality Now about seven years ago. The term itself is an oxymoron. How can there be honor in killing? How could the family's honor be worth someone's life? I read of a seventeen year old Turkish woman who was murdered by her fifteen year old brother after she left the women's shelter where she had been staying. She had gone into the shelter to escape violence at home. … [Read more...]
