What our Children Should Know About Remembrance Day

In America, this national holiday is more commonly known as Veteran’s Day (although in other countries it is also called Armistice Day and even Poppy Day). It is celebrated on November 11th of every year to honor and memorialize both soldiers and civilians who lost their lives in times of war. When it comes to informing children, young and old, about the value of Remembrance Day, there are a few items that should be imparted, not only concerning the military history of this holiday, but also … [Read more...]

Syria, save the children at Camp Neirab

Syria Syria’s Arab Spring is turning bloody. Over 5,000 protesters have been killed, and so have some 400 children. • One four-month-old was reportedly tortured to death. • The international community, previously reluctant to intervene, is getting ready for action. The deaths and injuries were caused by a shell which exploded in the … [Read more...]

The Brookings Institute asks “End the War in Syria? How? When?”

“The beginning of wisdom,” a Chinese saying goes, “is to call things by their right names.” And the right name for what is happening in Syria — and has been for more than a year — is an all-out civil war. It is certainly not Egypt or Tunisia. It is important to accept this simple fact, because … [Read more...]

ADELE BUTLER - Women of Spirit       China's Unwanted Girls   Today marks the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day and this morning I heard on The Current that there has been some progress in women’s fight for equality but there is still much to be done.
