National Day of Remembrance/Action on Violence Against Women

The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, also known informally as White Ribbon Day, is a day commemorated in Canada each December 6, the anniversary of the 1989 École Polytechnique Massacre, in which fourteen women were singled out for their gender and murdered. Will guilty verdict in Canadian ‘honor killing’ trial be a turning point for justice?

Family convicted in Canada 'honor murders' On January 29, after a ten-week trial and fifteen hours of deliberations, a seven woman, five man jury returned with a verdict of guilty to first degree murder for all three Afghan-Canadians who were charged in the pre-meditated murder of four female members of the polygamous Shafia family.
