In many ways, a little bit of stress can be a good thing – it can challenge us to meet our goals and motivate us to keep going. But, whether it’s related to your family life, work, or something else entirely, letting your stress levels keep building up can only end in disaster. When it crosses a certain line, stress can become seriously debilitating, and could even develop into full-blown anxiety if you fail to do anything about it. Thankfully, there’s no need to wait until you are experiencing regular panic attacks to start getting back in control of your stress. Here are some great ideas for de-stressing that you can do starting from today.
Tip #1. Get a Massage
When we’re really stressed out, we also tend to tense up. If you’ve noticed that your back and neck hurts after a really stressful day at work, for example, then you could have been tensing it without even realising.
A professional massage is a great way to indulge yourself and have some well-deserved ‘me’ time; it’ll give you a chance to lie back and relax whilst all the tension and stress of the day is expertly kneaded away.
Heaven and Earth Massage offer a wide range of treatments that can work wonders for minimising stress and promoting relaxation.
Tip #2. Hit the Gym
Even though you may well be wondering why you thought exercise was a good idea when you’re dripping in sweat mid-workout, there’s no denying that the feeling afterward can be out of this world. When you exercise, ‘feel-good’ chemicals are released into your bloodstream, and the neurotransmitters in your brain responsible for your mood are regulated. As a result, you’ll feel happier, more relaxed, and more in charge. In fact, studies have even shown that a short workout on the treadmill helped to relieve symptoms in patients suffering from a major depressive disorder. Along with that, there are many great exercises that provide a great outlet for getting rid of negative emotions such as anger or stress, for example, boxing.
Tip #3. Improve Your Diet
If you’re feeling stressed out because your boss won’t stop hounding you about your deadlines on top of your already massive workload, or because you’re having issues with your spouse for example, then you’re probably wondering what on earth eating healthier could do to help. However, there are many great benefits of a healthy diet when it comes to our stress levels and emotions. When your body isn’t getting the nutrients that it needs to deal with the stresses of the day, you’re going to feel tired and run down a lot quicker – resulting in heightened stress levels. In addition, don’t forget that your brain is also a physical organ, and it needs the right nutrition just as much as your heart and lungs do. Fill up on these stress-busting foods!
How do you de-stress and regain control of the worries in your head? We’d love to hear from you in the comments.
