BULLYING, a New Perspective

A Celebration of Women

initially sends our blessings to anyone in our world that is living at the hands of a “Bully“.

As a Woman (gender that has been bullied for centuries) , mother of four (teens included), victim of violent crime and more, I want to also send this message to all the teens born to the Women of our World.  With suicide in our communities reaching epidemic levels, we all must Take Action to divide the causes; and not blame only the Bully.  For the health of our own children, complete medical investigation is critical.  A teen suffering from depression has the potential to seek out a Bully, as a scapegoat for what is really going on.  Having a child of my own that attempted suicide, I can speak from experience…  I implore all the Women of our World to take this Social Issue very seriously; and work to get to root causes; including the one that will awaken us all to the cause of the Creation of a Bully.

Solution: the Bully must BE UNDERSTOOD!

The following is addressed to the teen that is being held hostage by a Bully and this may sound a little ‘Old School’ ; yet, as you read my thoughts with an OPEN MIND, a KIND HEART and COMMON SENSE, I am sure that you will agree there are some valid points made in these suggestions:

  • YOU must learn that ‘Bullying’ is an Action of Ignorance and Fear;  ‘Dis – ease’ .

  • YOU must work to understand that the “Bully” is suffering more than YOU.

  • YOU must strive to comprehend that anyone “Bullying’ another human being, regardless of the WHY, is mentally ill in some fashion, and needs HELP.  *Report them, and hopefully the school environment can seek out  help for them.

  • YOU must Take Action to Rise Above this person and work to create positive change.

  •  YOU must believe and fully understand, to the depth of your core/soul, that if the Bully was not attacking You, he/she would be attacking someone else, regardless of the ‘Reason’….a fearful soul is what we call ‘ a fight looking for a place to happen’.

  • YOU, we pray, will take the stance that as the “Bullied’, you have been chosen to do God’s work; helping the sick {Bully}; not taking the ‘hate’ personally.  By getting your own EGO out of the way, thinking of the ‘bullying’ as an illness and not a personal affront, you will not only  protect yourself from the hurt, you will be diffusing the action by NOT RE-ACTING.   There are actually recognized syndromes that manifest in violent activity…think of these.  ie. Tourette Syndrome  http://www.tourette.ca/

  • YOU must Take Action in your life to think of the other person before self, as difficult this may sound.  DO NOT take this attack personally!

  • YOU must ‘Rise Above Self , Awaken’ ….. to the truth that the ‘Bully’ is a very, very sick human being, not to be provoked either.    * Hide the Sharp Things, know what I mean?

  • YOU must never fear making Criminal Charges, if any bullying activity gets violent.

  • YOU, at the moment of any attack, always tell yourself in your mind, looking the Bully in the Eye: “It’s a really good day NOT to BE YOU”.  * That thought always helped me during times of verbal attacks.

  • YOU must also take responsibility is you are feeling depressed, lost, or even strange; without a Bully in your life.  Tell someone that you love how you are feeling….help is out there and always remember:   YOU are NOT ALONE!

  ‘Ignorance’ is a disease that has been in our world  for milleniums;

– see it for was it is  –

a disease named:  Ignorance & Fear, causing ‘Bullying’.

BE YOUTH of ACTION  …  never the Victim.

ONAP Staff: It Gets Better

Yesterday several White House staff posted a blog and video as part of the ‘It Gets Better‘ project. ‘It Gets Better’ is a national campaign targeting LGBT youth that started in the wake of several high profile suicides. The campaign encourages LGBT youth who may be the subject of discrimination, scorn or ostracization to look beyond their current circumstances and realize that that a bright future lies ahead. ONAP Director Jeffrey Crowley and I both participated in the video.

Inspired by President Obama’s “It Gets Better” video, several LGBT White House staffers share their messages of hope and support for LGBT youth who are struggling with being bullied.

It’s Time to End Teenage Bullying @ Ellen DeGeneres

I am devastated by the death of 18-year-old Tyler Clementi. If you don’t know, Tyler was a bright student at Rutgers University whose life was senselessly cut short. He was outed as being gay on the internet and he killed himself.

Something must be done. This month alone, there has been a shocking number of news stories about teens who have been teased and bullied and then committed suicide; like 13-year-old Seth Walsh in Tehachapi, California. Asher Brown, 13, of Cypress, Texas and 15-year-old Billy Lucas in Greensberg, Indiana. This needs to be a wake-up call to everyone: teenage bullying and teasing is an epidemic in this country, and the death rate is climbing.

One life lost in this senseless way is tragic. Four lives lost is a crisis. And these are just the stories we hear about. How many other teens have we lost? How many others are suffering in silence? Being a teenager and figuring out who you are is hard enough without someone attacking you.

My heart is breaking for their families, their friends and for a society that continues to let this happen. These kids needed us. We have an obligation to change this. There are messages everywhere that validate this kind of bullying and taunting and we have to make it stop. We can’t let intolerance and ignorance take another kid’s life.

I want anyone out there who feels different and alone to know that I know how you feel. There is help out there. You can find support in your community.

If you need someone to talk to or if you want to get involved, here are some organizations doing great work:
