This year, up to 8% of young Canadians will try to take their own lives. We can be doing so much more to provide for youth mental health needs and prevent tragedies such as suicide. Teenagers are hit particularly hard by suicide, with 500 Canadian teens taking their own lives each year – second only to car crashes among the most common causes of death for that age group.
Tell Parliament: Save The Lives Of Young Canadians
What is the biggest risk for youth today? Your first thought might not be mental health, but the truth is we have a very real crisis on our hands when it comes to suicide among young Canadians.
Of the 1.2 million Canadian children and youth affected by mental illness, less than one-quarter are getting the help they need, and suicide is the leading cause of non-accidental death among youth.
Right now 8% of young Canadians will try to take their own lives every year. We cannot let that staggering statistic go unaddressed.
We don’t have to stand by and let this crisis continue, though. We can convince the federal government that more funding and support is needed to get kids the help they need. Help save the lives of young Canadians today by telling Parliament to support child and youth suicide prevention initiatives across Canada.
