THIS WEEK
Greetings from Let’s Move!
The First Lady always says that everyone has a role to play in solving the epidemic of childhood obesity. This past week illustrated the many ways different sectors of society are stepping up. Last Sunday, the NBA released a PSA with the First Lady encouraging kids to be active for an hour a day. The NBA will also host 350 clinics around the country.
And another sport got in the game as well. St. Louis Rams NFL Quarterback Sam Bradford came to the Agriculture Department in DC to plant traditional plants in their People’s Garden and to urge Native American youth to spend the summer pursuing healthy outdoor activities.
In order to move well, you have to eat well and fuel your body with nutritious food. Last week, a bunch of chefs came to the White House as Champions of Change to discuss the best practices for working with schools and teachers through the Chefs Move to Schools program, a program that helps introduce kids to different fruits and vegetables and encourages school gardens.
There are so many more things happening at Let’s Move! that it is hard to list them all so check out our blog for all our stories. And we know you are all doing great things in your community so let us know through our facebook page what you are doing to eat well and be active.

Take Action!

Until
next week,

P.S.
If you want to make physical activity part of your day without going to the gym,
you need a community that has sidewalks and bike paths. The Department of
Transportation just announced 11 walk-friendly cities and is opening the next
round of applications from May 1 through June 15, 2011. Will your city be the
next to be recognized?
