THIS WEEK Happy March!
The buds are coming out on some trees here in Washington, DC and my boys want the weather to get warmer so they can only wear shorts and t-shirts instead of coats and hats. I can’t wait to spend more time outside with them.
To help get more kids outside, last week the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) announced their collaboration with Let’s Move!.
The USTA released PSAs featuring the First Lady and tennis stars Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf as well as announcing their commitment to build and renovate 3000 kids size tennis courts across the United States.
You can find out more about getting a tennis court in your community here.
In an effort to double the amount of schools that reach the HealthierUS School Challenge, the First Lady hosted a conference call with Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Education Secretary Arne Duncan and leaders from national schools, parent and nutrition groups to urge their members to join the Challenge.
HealthierUS Schools commit to improving school lunches, providing nutrition education and adding physical activity to the school day. Beckie Bounds, a superintendant from Mississippi, explained how schools in her district became HealthierUS Schools.
Secretary Vilsack also announced a set of Team Nutrition grants to help schools become HealthierUS Schools.
Keep up your good work in raising the next generation on Healthy Kids. Send us your stories to our Facebook page and follow us on twitter.
Until next week,
