UN Women is seeking candidates for the post of Assistant Secretary-General (ASG), Policy and Programme Bureau. The ASG is responsible for establishing the direction and exercising leadership in providing the substantive content of documentation produced to support the intergovernmental process, as well as proposing new strategic approaches for UN Women, in response to emerging trends. The ASG is responsible for setting the direction, and guiding the planning, coordination, management and oversight of all programme activities and services provided by the Policy and Programme Bureau, assessing overall programme performance and results, reporting to the Executive Director on critical issues and the Executive Board as mandated; and advising the Executive Director on the general direction of policies and programmes on gender equality and women’s empowerment. The ASG provides guidance and support for quality assurance of country level operations, working through the regional and sub-regional offices. S/he maintains regular contacts with Regional Directors on all matters related to programme policy and operations.
