Don’t Let Sleep Disorders Derail Your Career As A Woman

The United States economy loses $63 billion per annum due to sleep deprivation, whether employees are at work or not. While there are many causes of sleep deprivation, women have a unique load of sleeping disorders of their own to contend with. While some of them are caused by anxiety over an excessive workload, others are due to natural reasons. Dealing with the causes are at the root of treating the sleeping disorder, and de-stressing is just the start of it.

Get To The Bottom Of The Cause

When research reveals that more women are prone to sleep disorders, it’s important to pay attention to this critical part of overall wellbeing. One of the most effective ways to determine the cause of sleep deprivation is by studying existing sleeping patterns. The research also reveals that insomnia is prevalent in women and menstrual cycle-related sleep disturbances are one of the causes. For women, understanding that sleep disruptions might occur more frequently in certain parts of the month will make planning out important work meetings and projects more effectively.

It’s also important to pay attention to other medical conditions that could cause sleep disruptions. Find out from a medical professional whether there are natural routes to follow to resolve the underlying issue, or if medical treatment is required. The time taken to resolve this once and for all will have a marked improvement on performance, which has a direct effect on a career.

Splash Out On Effective Sleep Gear

Before assuming that the sleep disturbances are caused by an underlying medical condition, it might just be distractions or the lack of a proper schedule. Sleep trackers are effective in cataloging the data and providing insight into the assumed state of sleep. Sleep disturbances can be caused by a number of things including the traffic noise, not having a dark enough room, noisy neighbors, and more. One of the less obvious reasons for a lack of sleep is sleeping on the wrong type of mattress. Choosing a mattress that is best suited to the individual will rely on a few factors such as the firmness, size, and height – a quick comparison can be done here.

Step Away From The Blue Light

One of the most effective ways to induce a good night’s sleep is by setting the mood. This means slowing the day down in order to relax, which means moving away from technology and that dreaded blue light. According to a study done by Harvard, the blue light actively suppresses the production of melatonin, which is an integral part of a good night’s sleep. Instead, run a bath, put on some soothing music, dim the lights, and slowly start relaxing. Although it might be tempting to check those work emails one last time before nodding off, leave it be and rather put pen to paper and create a schedule or to-do list instead.

While it’s tempting to put in those extra hours at the office, sharpening the ax is equally important. Keeping those energy levels high is important for optimal focus and performance, which means getting a good night’s rest.
