Orange Day + Gender Equality Advocacy and Awareness session conducted at Spring Dale College, Gomti Nagar LUCKNOW on 25th July, 2018.
Our Advisor to Asia, Ms. Meetika Srivastava, was called upon to conduct a gender equality related session during their ongoing one week long awareness drive on the theme of gender equality is the need of the society.
Championing the cause of girls education and empowerment she did screening of the movie ‘Girl Rising’.
This was followed by an interactive session on Gender Equality, related games and activities to engage the children and make them understand the concept of gender equality and why it is important for them to be a gender equality champion or ambassador for their respective school, family and community at large.
Children are internalizing the messages they hear from their parents and teachers and what they see on television and in games, movies and music and certain gender stereotyping set in early from their childhood.
They were told to break those gender stereotyping..relating to colors, emotions and career choices. Colors do not have gender, a girl might love ‘Blue’ color and a boy might be fond of ‘PINK’ color. Gender Equality encompasses equal access to education, health and economic participation. Gender discrimination should not be encouraged at all. God has made all of us as ‘equal and same’ with certain physiological differences but with the same potentialities for growth.
There were pledges been taken and the students raised their voice on elimination of violence against girls and women; holding placards with relevant messages, wearing orange colour caps, slogans and short messages written on palm shaped paper cuttings, all in orange colour to go with the orange theme of observing the United Nations Secretary General’s UNite Campaign which designates 25th day or date of every month as ‘Orange day’.
The event began with garlanding of the photos of Spring Dale College’s founder President Late Mrs and Mr. Sood followed by all religions prayers and other events. Major Khanna and Mrs. Reeta Khanna the management head of Spring Dale College were also present.
Vote of thanks was given by Mrs.Sangeeta Midha, Principal, Spring Dale College, Gomti Nagar.
Headmistress, Mrs.Neelam Sinha and all the teachers who were instrumental in making this event successful and meaningful.
A Celebration of Women™ conveys its best wishes to Spring Dale College for imparting value education to children apart from classroom learning. We express our gratitude for having us at your college’s Gomti Nagar branch for conducting a Gender Equality session and making us part of your Annual Awareness week.
Thanks to Meetika Srivastava
