MovemberFoundation_2The Movember Foundation is a global charity committed to men living happier, healthier, longer lives. Since 2003, millions have joined the men’s health movement, raising $677 million and funding over 1,000 programs focusing on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health and physical inactivity.

Why men’s health?

The state of men’s health is in a crisis. Simply put, men are dying too young.

Gender is one of the strongest and most consistent predictors of health and life expectancy. For men, this is not good news. On average, across the world, men die 6 years earlier than women.

Moreover, poor mental health affects men more than women: three quarters of suicides are by men. The World Health Organization estimates that 510,000 men die from suicide globally each year. That’s one every minute.

The impact of prostate and testicular cancer on lives is substantial, with prostate cancer being the second most common cancer in men worldwide and the number of cases expected to almost double to 1.7 million cases by 2030.

Yet this gender-based inequality in health has received little national, regional or global acknowledgement or attention from health policy-makers or healthcare providers. This is exactly why the Movember Foundation focuses on men’s health. This is why Mo Bros and Mo Sistas from across the globe become a united voice every Movember, bringing vital funding and attention to the hidden men’s health crisis.

This is not just an issue for men. In order to tackle the problem and work towards a world where future generations of men are not faced with the same issues as today, we need to take action at both an individual and community level. This means engaging men and women, businesses, sporting groups, community organizations, governments, health policy makers and healthcare providers in the efforts to reduce the current gender inequality in health outcomes.

How will we create positive change for men’s health globally?

We’re set apart by our unique role as a global connector and the global community we have built and continue to grow. We bring leading experts together from around the world to collaborate on solutions that will fundamentally change the way men are treated and supported. By looking at health through a gendered lens and focusing our efforts in four priority areas we ensure that each program we fund is a step towards our vision for the future.

WEWednesdays-final-flyer-general--1024x576WEWednesdays! Women Empowering Women, is the first platform to celebrate all Women offering the format of “Open Mike Night” ( or … as WE likes to say: ‘Open Michelle Night” ) enabling any and all women in our audiences to Step Up and Take the Floor when so inspired to do so … and our WEWomen are supporting MOVEMBER this year during all our November events, with speaker proceeds going to help men’s health!

We believe in Taking Action.

We’re creating positive change for men’s health by raising awareness and educating men year-round, and through our take-over of the month formerly known as November.

We invest strategically in four key focus areas to have an everlasting impact on men’s health.
We work year-round with our global men’s health partners and academic and clinical institutions to ensure our programs accelerate improvements to some of the biggest health issues faced by men.

In particular, we focus on:

Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Canadian men.

Testicular Cancer
Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young Canadian men aged 15 – 29.

Poor Mental Health
About 11% of men in Canada will experience major depression in the course of their lives.

Physical Inactivity
Only 1 in 4 Canadian men met the CSEP exercise guideline of 150 minutes per week.

We report on every initiative we fund so you can see the effect your donations are having.
