In 2015, the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women will undertake a third global review of progress (Beijing+20) made in the implementation of the 1995 Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, adopted at the UN Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, China.
Beijing+20 offers an opportunity for stakeholders to mobilize and partner for renewed political commitment and action for gender equality and women’s and girls’ empowerment. This month, UN Women kick-started a global campaign titled: “Empowering Women-Empowering Humanity: Picture It!” to galvanize renewed commitment and action to realize gender equality and women’s rights and empowerment worldwide.
To support UN Women efforts leading to Beijing+20, the Knowledge Gateway will organize a series of online initiatives. These initiatives will cover the links between women’s economic empowerment and the 12 Critical Areas of Concern of the Bejiing Platform for Action. We will engage a wide audience, including women and men of all ages from government, civil society and the private sector and seek their inputs on emerging issues, innovations and engagement with youth around the Beijing+20 review process.
