The Concept Pedigree

Ideas combine.
In the process of communicating and propagating ideas,
the ideas are embellished, elaborated in detail,
extended in the territory of analogy, ramified,
but they are also trimmed, abstracted,
dissected into an anatomy of elements
and recombined in a breeding process.
There are hybrid ideas.

Sometimes in the history of thought, discontinuities develop.
Mutations occur. Ingredient elements are lost.
To return to the breeding stock of discovery
and strengthen the breed of an “ology”
can remove the discontinuities of distended mutation.

The sequences of thought
disclose something of the process of communicating
and propagating ideas and something of the process of translation
within the minds of those who communicate and propagate ideas
as well as what happens between those minds
which are part of the breeding links.

Each mind is a domain within a unique context.
The same idea resident in two minds must connect in a different way
with respect to values as well as conceptual associations.
Each of us can furnish an idea with nourishing roots,
can sustain its life with the motion of our mind upholding it,
can shine upon it with light of our own understanding.
Our doubt can cleave away its weaker forms or appendages.
Our disbelief can send it into a limbo.

There is no method of the mind which is to be given tyranny
over all other methods.
Logic cannot be a vanquishing force over poetic analogy
or aesthetic relationships.
