Provisional Elegance

Why does nature exhibit elegance, promote diversity
and unfold complementary order?
Because of the nature of oneness, wholeness or unity.

First, remember how we view elegance:
maximum diversity with minimum inventory.
The promotion of diversity isn’t the promotion of any and all diversity.
The promotion of diversity isn’t arbitrary and chaotic diversity.
It is the elegant diversity which nature promotes.
This means diversity from minimum inventory.

In order for life to be reproductive,
it needs the reproductive template of the double helix.
It needs the complementarity of base pairs.
Life needs a kind of symmetry to be reproductive.
Cell multiplication and growth requires replication.

In order for the replication to occur,
such a mechanism as transcription must occur.
The replication, the reproduction,
the growth of a living system is counterentropic,
it reverses the thermodynamic principle of entropy or disorder,
by imparting pattern to select substances, elements
and compounds are assembled modularly, in subunits.

Guanine and cytosine are complementary base pairs.
Adenine and Thymine are complementary base pairs.
These four compounds sequence.
In order to sequence, they need to have a linking foundation: monophosphate.
It is possible that the ladder of base pair rungs
and phosphate rails could be straight,
but the helix creates some range relationships,
the full significance of which we do not know.
