WORLD UNDER 23 ULTIMATE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2013
Ultimate Canada is the governing body for the sport of Ultimate in Canada.
Started in 1993, the goals of Ultimate Canada include:
- Representing the interests of the sport and all Ultimate players in Canada
- Promoting the growth and development of the sport throughout Canada
- Facilitating open and continuous communication within the Ultimate community and within the sports community
- Organizing ongoing activities for the sport including national competitions and educational programs
Promoting sportsmanship and the spirit of the game
Timeline of National Ultimate Developments in Canada
1980: Toronto League started
1986: Vancouver and Ottawa Leagues started
1987: First Canadian Ultimate Championships – open division only
1988: MODS (first PSO) founded
1989: Women’s Division added to Nationals
1991: WFDF World Ultimate Club Championships in Toronto
1993: Canadian Ultimate Players Association begins
1994: Juniors Division added to Nationals
1995: Masters Division added to Nationals. First Annual University National Championships – open & women’s divisions
1997: WFDF World Ultimate Club Championships in Vancouver
1999: Mixed Division added to Canadian Ultimate Championships
2008: WFDF World Ultimate & Guts Championships in Vancouver
2010: Canadian Ultimate Players Association changes its name to Ultimate CanadaThe Toronto Ultimate Club (TUC) is pleased to announce that it will host the World Flying Disc Federation’s Under-23 Ultimate Championships in 2013. This prestigious Ultimate Frisbee event will be held at York University from July 22 – 28, 2013.
WU23 2013 will welcome 40+ teams from over 20 nations in 3 divisions of competition: Open, Women’s, and Mixed. At the first ever WU23 championships in 2010, Team Canada took home Gold in the Men’s Division and 4th place in the Women’s Division. WU23 will be hosted every 3-4 years and serves to compliment the World Junior Ultimate Championships (Dublin, Ireland 2012), World Ultimate Championships (Sakai, Japan 2012), World Ultimate Club Championships (2014), and World Beach Ultimate Championships (2015).
Canada’s U23 National teams will be comprised of elite players from across the nation. “Ultimate Canada is thrilled to have the World Under-23 Championships in our backyard and we look forward to the challenge of competing against the world’s best teams,” said Danny Saunders, Executive Director of Ultimate Canada. “We anticipate that the TUC will deliver a premier sporting event that all participants will enjoy and that will be very exciting for spectators and supporters alike.”
