Hoping that 2013 finds you well, and that it is your best year yet.
It is an exciting time in our office, we are preparing for our new children’s book to go into production.
This book is part of our Toby the dog book series, his legacy lives on through his heartwarming stories and books he inspired me to write.
On Toby’s Terms author Charmaine Hammond partners with Oceanside Public Library and San Diego Humane Society for the Paws to Help: READ-MEET-ACT.
The Oceanside Public Library received a California State Library Get Involved: Book-To-Action Project grant to do a series of book discussions and a civic engagement project.
The program is entitled Paws to Help: READ-MEET-ACT.
What a great way to combine literacy, a rescue organization and volunteerism!
The Library has chosen my books On Toby’s Terms (for the adult program) and my book for children Toby The Pet Therapy Dog and His Hospital Friends. The books were read and discussed through April and early May 2012 to encourage dialogue about volunteerism and the importance of both humans and pets giving back to the community.
Part of this program involved a community event so, the Library partnered with the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA in Oceanside and created an events with a volunteer project distributing flyers with animals’ pictures and adoption information and a mobile adoption event held in June 2012.
Volunteers were also recruited to start a Homework Helper program in the Civic Center Library and Mission Branch Library.
Toby The Pet Therapy Dog Says Be A Buddy Not a Bully will be released in June 2013, and is a beautiful book for children grades Kindergarten to Grade 3. The book is about the power of kindness, being a good friend (not a bully or a bystander), and how to deal with bullies. At the back of the book there are classroom discussion questions and activities, along with exercises for Random Acts of Kindness tips for children.
We are excited to introduce the book to the world. We would be honoured if you joined us on Team Toby as a champion. There are a few way ways you can collaborate with us. In essence, it would involve sending out an email or social media posts to your contacts, on our launch day in June. And the best part is, the email/social media post copy to send will be provided for you, of course you are welcome to personalize it, but we will give you the information and instructions to make this a walk in the dog park :o)
The second area we could use your support is video testimonials. If you have read On Toby’s Terms, or Toby the Pet Therapy Dog & His Hospital Friends, we would love a short video testimonial….
And of course if you prefer to do one for the new book, we’d LOVE that.
If you would like to provide us with a video or text tip about friendship or bullying prevention, that would be fabulous as well, our goal is to make a difference through engaging people in the conversation of friendship, kindness and prevention of bullying.
A Million Acts of Kindness – Toby’s Global MissionOn February 14, 2012 we launched Toby’s global kindness mission.
During his life, Toby and his story left pawprints on thousands of hearts around the world.
Toby presented to more than 10,000 students across North America, engaged 7,000 children in his random act of kindness mission, volunteered for almost four years at a hospital and raised thousands for charity.
Toby the dog, star of a series of books has a global Kindness mission. Visit our site to see how you can join our mission, to raise awarness of kindness, bullying and voluteering through our educational presentations.
Sadly, our precious dog, and best friend, Toby passed away peacefully late in 2011. This loss has left such a void in our hearts, and our life. Toby was 10 ½ years of age and we were blessed to have him in our family since he was 5 years old.
Toby brought us a lot of joy, a lot of learning, and some wonderful experiences and moments to treasure. We still shake our head at some of the antics he got up to.
Leaving pawprints on hearts everywhere, he was a good friend to everyone he met, and had the opportunity to help others through his volunteer work at the hospital (as an animal assisted therapy dog) and at the schools that he visited.
These were his passions and Toby got so much joy from these experiences.
Toby’s legacy will live on through his books (On Toby’s Terms and Toby The Pet Therapy Dog & His Hospital Friend), the movie, his Global Kindness Mission and the presentations we do for schools, and through the kindness mission he started. As with everything in Toby’s life… he left us on his terms. Thank you for your support and friendship to Toby. Life is precious- please take a moment to show and tell those you love just how much you love them.
His legacy A Million Acts of Kindness – Toby’s Global Mission.
This mission will be ongoing. The goal is to bring kindness to the forefront in our family, community, workplace, and ultimately, the world. We know from Toby that every act of kindness that is extended, leaves a PAWsitive impact and inspires another. Join us and PAW it Forward!
We encourage you to “friend” Toby on face book at Tobytales and OnTobysTerms pages and post your comments, quotes and examples of kindness. As well, follow Toby and Charmaine on Twitter and tweet about kindness, your favorite kindness quotes, examples of where kindness made a difference.
You can follow them on Twitter at @hammondgroupbiz and @ontobysterms.

Until then, be kind to one another.Toby’s Kindness Mission Team
