What is Momentum1000?
April 5th, 2013 marked the 1,000-day milestone until the 2015 target date to achieve the UN’s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), a development framework to improve lives worldwide. On that day, a community of individuals, organizations, and institutions celebrated successes to date, reinvigorated discussion on the MDGs themselves, and began to advance a post-2015 development framework that builds on #MDGmomentum.
Momentum1000
April 5th, 2013 marked the 1,000-day milestone until the 2015 target date to achieve the UN’s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), a development framework to improve lives worldwide. We joined the global development community for a 1,000-minute digital rally to inspire people everywhere to Take Action to support the UN and the Millennium Development Goals.
On April 5, 2013, a diverse group of organizations from all parts of the international development community will mount a global 1,000-minute digital media rally to raise awareness and inspire action around the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and will mark the 1,000 day milestone leading to 2015. This social media surge will feature 1,000 consecutive minutes of digital engagement and amplification of messages via several digital tools. Partner organizations will rally their respective constituencies, friends and supporters to tell stories about what’s working and what can be done to advance the MDGs.
Together, we will ignite discussion, raise awareness, rally our communities, and help drive positive action around the MDGs and the ongoing post-2015 international development dialogue. #MDGmomentum
More than 80 organizations participated in the social media rally to highlight the progress that has been made in lifting people out of poverty, reducing child and maternal deaths, fighting AIDS and malaria, and much more.
We can’t let this be the end of the conversation.
As UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon wrote, “The 1,000-day mark should be a call to action to a global movement from governments to the grassroots who have been so critical to success.”
