Scratchylus says he wants to reach a particular demographic with Mama Africa.
“I’m trying to create awareness among women, get them aware of their royalty,” he said in a broad British accent. “They’re not been told that, they’re been told they are bitches.”

Mama Africa is among the songs on the latest update of the conversation, made famous by producer Bunny Lee and singer Slim Smith in the early 1970s.
Sizzla, Fred Locks and Nerus Joseph also did songs on the revised beat.
Scratchylus cut another song, a tree, with roots singer Bushman who also produced that track.
“More than anything, I’m using the music to educate and create a level of consciousness. There’s not a lot of that around,” he said.
Scratchylus (whose real given name is Sene Jameh ) was born in Harlesden to Jamaica parents. The area has a strong West Indian heritage and, musically, is known for producing the reggae band Steel Pulse.Strongly influenced by John Holt, Ken Boothe and Dennis Brown, Scratchylus did his first recording 15 years ago.
