The YIN MIND – To Connect or To Obstruct

One researcher, in brain / mind relationships,
characterized the mind as the music
and the brain as the musical instrumentation.
The music is an ideal pattern.
The musical instrument is
the means of creating the increments
of compression and expansion
is such a media as air,
from the motion or the movement
of a surface.

The music is an idea,
in the mind of a composer.
But we have compositional convention:
the octave, the doubling of frequency
is divided into 12 parts.
There can be ideas
that divide the octave differently.
There can be compositions
that don’t just break the repeated beats
of the rhythm into a tempo,
with such as halves and quarter notes.
There are harmonic relationships
that are possible,
with a differently divided octave.

Exactly so,
there are thoughts
that are not and can not
be mediated with words.

We can not trust words
to truthfully contain and to convey –
meaning or ideas
we may need to communicate
or to contain or embody.
Here I am, using words,
to “point to” and to “stand for”,
to denote and to represent,
ideas that can not be
contained within or conveyed by
the words or syntax of a language.

The words do not map –
the realm or the reality
to which they refer.

Prepositions are relationship words.
Towards, to, into, within, through, out of, from,
all describe something with motion or with movement
that enters, that penetrates, a boundary of form,
but it only represents increments of proximity
and a direction, in coarse or in crude terms.
Can we really “point to” or “stand for”
the reality we inherit
with words and language?
Do the shapes of a piece of sculpture
fully “point to” or “stand for”
the object to which it “points”
or for which it “stands”?
Can we really derive truth from reason?

We occupy a reality
characterized by surfaces and by forms.
However, there is something covered
by those surfaces.
There is a structure and there are functions
evidenced by or indicated
by motions and by movements.

X-rays show us the silhouette of bones.
MRI’s show us reflections of softer tissues.
PET scans show us activities
in the cells and in the substances.
We penetrate, we perturb,
we look into and beyond.
