Erika Marquis needs a LIVER, let's Take Action !

A Celebration of Women

is calling out to the Women of our World to Take Action!

Erika Marquis was born in Hungary in 1965 and immigrated to Canada alone at the age of 19. She is a great teacher and human being. Her spirit, her enthusiasm and her sense of humour always brightened not only our day, but her students’ as well. Erika has continued to work as an ESL teacher until very recently.

About seven years ago, Erika decided to go to Spain to further her experience as a teacher and embrace a new culture. While she was there, she became very sick. She went to several doctors and they were convinced that she had contracted hepatitis. Erika knew that she was vaccinated against hepatitis and decided to cut her trip short as her health was deteriorating. By the time she made it back to Toronto, she was so ill that she was admitted to the hospital in critical condition.

The doctors in Toronto diagnosed Erika with

Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis,a degenerative liver disease.

They immediately placed her on the liver transplant list.

Erika needs a liver.

ERIKA today ….

Unfortunately, she has been waiting years for a liver. It is a catch 22 type of situation because available organs go first to those who are in critical care. A live donation would be her best option. This is an amazing process where a section of a liver is removed and given to the recipient, and the liver regenerates itself within six weeks. Anyone interested in live liver donation must have an O negative blood type.
Erika needs financial support. She is in the process of applying for long-term disability, but this will barely cover the cost of her rent. She needs a lot more but this would be a great start. Erika has reached a critical point. Your support and generosity are crucial to her well-being.
Our dear friend Erika is an amazing person. She is fun, funny, energetic, artistic, very caring and a great friend.
Erika has been battling a rare liver disease for the past six years. She is in urgent need of a liver transplant – a piece of a living donor’s liver will work – and we ask our friends and the public to SPREAD THIS INFORMATION FAR AND WIDE WITHIN YOUR NETWORKS.
This is Erika’s only hope for life.
If you know someone with the kindness and generosity of spirit to be a liver donor, please get in touch with one of our group members. Liver donation is a complicated procedure, and the donor must have O- blood type.
