Honoring the Success of Afghan Women

In a ceremony at the Embassy of Afghanistan in Washington DC on April 29. 2011, H.E. Ambassador Eklil Hakimi and Mrs Sultana Hakimi presented Ms. Nazira Azim Karima, reporter of Arianna international TV, Ms. Lina R. Haidari, reporter of VOA , Ms Shaista Lami, reporter of VOA and Ms Khojesta Fana Ebrahimkhel Counselor of the embassy with the Awards for their excellent achievement in their respective fields.

Thier achievements have been recognized by H.E Dr. Ghazanfar, Minister of Women’s Affairs of Afghanistan as dedicated reporters and activities on affairs affecting Afghanistan. These succesful Afghan women are the pioneers honored through this new initiative of “A DATABASE OF SUCCESSFUL AND TALENTED AFGHAN WOMEN AROUND THE WORLD.”

In his remarks, the Ambassador of Afghanistan spoke of the vital role each honoree played in promoting positive change of Afghan women. “One of the major achievements of the Afghan government in the past ten years is the growth of Afghan women in different fields. Today 28 percent of Afghan parliament is female and women make up 40 perecent of the Afghan media.” He said. “I am committed to do everything in my power as the representative of Afghanistan in the United States to further the work of Afghan women and support them with the help of my wife Sultana”

Ms. sultana Hakimi, wife of the Afghan Ambassador, thanked the journalists for their excellent efforts and said ”recognizing and supporting Afghan women’s hard work will build a peaceful and prosperous society” She showed keen interest in this initiative and willingness to support.

H.E. Ambassador Hakimi believes that this new initiative attempts to promote women achievement and illustrate the continuing progress of the people of Afghanistan nationally and internationally.

However the Embassy of Afghanistan in Washington D.C is the first of such constituents to implement and honor such a program.
