United Nations, New York, 11 March 2011 — UN Women Executive Director Michelle Bachelet is pleased to announce that today, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon announced the appointment of Ms. Lakshmi Puri of India as Assistant Secretary-General for Intergovernmental Support and Strategic Partnerships and Mr. John Hendra of Canada as Assistant Secretary-General for Policy and Programme at UN Women. They will also serve as the two Deputies to the Executive Director.
Ms. Puri will be responsible for the leadership and management of the Bureau supporting inter-governmental bodies, UN coordination and external relations.
Mr. Hendra will be responsible for the leadership and management of the Bureau supporting policy analysis, research and training, programme management and oversight.
Both Ms. Puri and Mr. Hendra bring a wealth of experience to their positions:
