Last week, we expressed deep concern about the latest GOP Assault on women’s health and urged you to take action against unprecedented funding cuts and policy restrictions on some of the most important women’s health programs and services both here in the United States and abroad.Unfortunately, despite the efforts of you and thousands of others, the GOP majority in Congress finalized action early Saturday morning on a funding bill that maintained the cuts and imposed new, harmful policies. Read about the programs and organizations that stand to be negatively affected. While this is great cause for concern, there are three things you can do right now to fight back against these dangerous developments:
1. Make your voice heard. The House funding bill is a major setback, but the fight isn’t over yet! Before the it can become law, the Senate has to pass its version of the bill, then the House and Senate need to work out differences between the versions and then it needs to be signed into law by President Obama.
Contact your two Senators to let them know that the health and rights of women and young people are vital to strong and healthy communities and that you support these investments and reject the House policy restrictions.
2. Rally for change. This Saturday, events are taking place across the United States to rally for women’s health. For those in the U.S., click here to find information about local rallies. For those in New York, we invite you to join IWHC staff and colleagues in this Saturday, February 26 from 1 to 3 pm to Rally for Women’s Health at Foley Square – across from the Court House in Lower Manhattan, between Lafayette St & Centre Street.
We hope to see you there!
3. Contribute to the cause. We look for every opportunity to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights.
