Best known for her celebrity portraits, albums and CD covers, Halpin has received acclaim for revealing everything from the glamorous beauty of Hollywood and the exquisite glow of pregnancy, to the heartbreaking despair of Skid Row. Mary Ann’s newest project has expanded towards the creation of fine art wall portraits. Her latest book Fearless Women: Midlife Portraits was released in March 2005, published by Stewart, Tabori and Chang, featuring celebrities such as Joni Mitchell, Cybill Shepherd, Erin Brokovitch, Joan Lunden and many other extraordinary women.
Mary Ann also passionately focuses her lens on women’s issues. As author of her first book Pregnant Goddesshood: A Celebration of Life, Mary Ann garnered national attention for her book’s powerful images. Controversial at the time, it portrayed pregnant women as radiant and beautiful, and encouraged women to embrace their pregnant bodies and to celebrate them with photography. Images from Pregnant Goddesshood have also been featured in LIFE Magazine.

Mary Ann has appeared on television shows such as The View, Inside Edition, and Extra, where the book sparked heated discussion. As recently as five years ago, an exposed pregnant belly was a threat to the status quo, and considered unsuitable by many. Mary Ann pioneered the trend of pregnant portraits. As of lately, she has been asked to use her talents on A Baby Story, and was featured last season on the hit show Starting Over mentoring a young photographer on the show.
