FEARLESS WOMEN DAY – August 26, 2010

INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE

An annual “Fearless Women Day” is being created in honor of the 90th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment being ratified, which gave Women the Right to Vote.

On this day, August 26th, 2010, women from all over the country and Canada, in partnership with eWomenNetwork, with 25,000 members strong, will come together in fearless celebration. Each city will select one woman who will be given a Fearless Women – Susan B. Anthony Award to honor her fearless contribution to the world. to benefit

the Anne Douglas Center for Women.

The Los Angeles Mission women’s outreach and rehabilitation program was named the Anne Douglas Center in recognition of Mrs. Kirk Douglas’s long-standing compassionate generosity to the homeless. Mrs. Douglas has said, “If I had but one wish, I think becoming a recognized patron of homeless men and women would be it. I hope together we will be able to alleviate their plight entirely.”  The Anne Douglas Center provides a year-long rehabilitation program for homeless and otherwise destitute women. The women are provided with shelter, meals, and clothing. They also undergo a career-skills development process, as well as relationship rehabilitation and spiritual counseling—all of which enable them to become independently functioning members of society.  Rehabilitation is followed by a transition program that gives the women the support they need to return to life outside the Mission.

The Emcee for this event will be internationally acclaimed award winning actress, director and United Nations Goodwill Ambassador Linda Gray who is best known for her role as Sue Ellen Ewing, the wife of Larry Hagman’s character, J.R. Ewing in the 1978 worldwide syndicated hit show “Dallas”. Also, one of our performers will be, Grammy award winning, Marilyn McCoo.

On this day, Fearless Women from major non-profit organizations such as The Grossman Burn Foundation, ACT Today for Autism and The National Women’s History Museum in DC are banning together in support of the Anne Douglas Center for Women. In addition, internationally acclaimed photographer Mary Ann Halpin will be premiering her latest book entitled Fearless Women, Fearless Wisdom which is a culmination of 40 female entrepreneurs from across the country and Canada to celebrate their courage and strength in having worked through their fears to achieve great personal and professional success.  Mary Ann, along with the 40 women adorned on the pages of this book, committed to raise awareness and support for their most impassioned cause and beloved charity.  Out of this commitment came the inception of Fearless Women Day.
