Governor General announces the award of Bravery Decoration

OTTAWA—Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, announced today the awarding of 11 Decorations for Bravery. The recipients will be invited to receive their decorations at a ceremony to be held at a later date.
The Decorations for Bravery were created in 1972. The Cross of Valour (C.V.) recognizes acts of the most conspicuous courage in circumstances of extreme peril; the Star of Courage (S.C.) recognizes acts of conspicuous courage in circumstances of great peril; and the Medal of Bravery (M.B.) recognizes acts of bravery in hazardous circumstances.
“A Celebration of Women” honours this Woman of Action, who gave her Life while taking Positive Action for another!

On April 21, 2007, Naval Reservist Leading Seaman Roxanne Lalonde lost her life when she attempted to rescue a 15-year-old boy from the fast-flowing waters of the Rideau River, in Merrickville, Ontario. Upon arriving at the base of a dam, Leading Seaman Lalonde was advised that the boy was probably caught in the falls under it. Without hesitation, she jumped in the icy waters to search for him, but was suddenly caught up by the strong undertow and pulled towards the middle of the river. Others on shore tried to throw a life line to her, but the strong current quickly carried her downstream. Sadly, neither the boy nor Leading Seaman Lalonde survived. Although this is an incredibly sad event, it is because of things like this that people need to get a Jones Act Attorney involved to help get the compensation they deserve for losing a loved one or even if a loved one is injured whilst working on the boat due to negligence.

OTTAWA-Son Excellence la très honorable Michaëlle Jean, gouverneure générale du Canada, a annoncé aujourd’hui l’octroi de 11 Décorations pour actes de bravoure. Les récipiendaires seront invités à recevoir leur décoration lors d’une cérémonie qui se tiendra à une date ultérieure.
Les Décorations pour actes de bravoure ont été créées en 1972. La Croix de la vaillance (CV), des actes de courage vraiment remarquables accomplis dans des circonstances extrêmement périlleuses; l’Étoile du courage (SC), des actes de courage remarquables accomplis dans des circonstances très périlleuses, et la Médaille de la bravoure (MB), des actes de bravoure dans .

Le 21 avril 2007, la réserve navale de Matelot Roxanne Lalonde a perdu la vie quand elle a tenté de sauver un 15-year-old boy de l’écoulement rapide des eaux de la rivière Rideau, à Merrickville, en Ontario. En arrivant à la base d’un barrage, Lalonde matelot de première classe a été informé que le garçon était probablement pris dans la chute en dessous. Sans hésiter, elle a sauté dans les eaux glacées de rechercher pour lui, mais il a été subitement rattrapé par le fort et a tiré vers le milieu de la rivière. D’autres sur le rivage ont essayé de jeter une ligne de vie pour elle, mais le fort courant rapidement emportée. Malheureusement, ni l’enfant ni le Matelot Lalonde a survécu.
