The Importance of Sexual Health

Female empowerment comes from understanding and knowing your own body and being the one to make decisions about it. How you choose to live and what you choose to do with your body is up to you, but that means that you are also responsible for taking care of yourself too. You should be allowed to live as freely as you like, but we also want you to be safe too, so here is some advice on how you can stay happy and healthy:

Caring for Your Body

With female empowerment comes body positivity, changes in attitude and an increase in sexual empowerment and sex positivity. This means that it is important to understand what you need to do to stay safe. Carrying your own condoms does not make you anything but sensible, because you are also responsible in practicing protected sex. Whilst research is being done into different forms of male contraceptives, ultimately it is up to females to deal with the contraceptive side of things, so speak with your health clinic about the different forms of contraceptives that are available. Also remember that contraceptives reduce the risk of pregnancy, but do not protect you from sexually transmitted infections and diseases, so always practice safe sex and use condoms.

Get it Checked

If you are unsure or need to check your or your partner’s sexual health, then home kits have made it so much easier. Whilst it is also easy to go to clinic and get tested, sometimes that isn’t always an option, so using an at home STD test is another way to check your sexual health status. Whilst most things are easily treated and cause no long-term issues, there are other things that can cause permanent problems to your body and symptoms aren’t always obvious, so taking a test is the best way to make sure there is nothing going on. It isn’t something to be too embarrassed about as unfortunately sexually transmitted diseases are relatively common; it is more important that you get tested so you can feel at ease and any problems can be treated sooner rather than later.

Confidence

Feeling confident and good about your body is something we all want to feel, so taking care of your body and your sexual health should be something to feel proud of. Eating healthily and staying active is a great way to improve your self-confidence as well as your sexual health, as you are more likely to feel good on both the inside and the out. Good sexual health is also found by good communication, as you can have a more trusting relationship and show your respect for each other because you should both be feeling comfortable.

Fertility

Looking after your body is not only good for your overall health, but also increases your fertility, so it is important if you plan on starting a family. Looking after your sexual health reduces the risk of fertility problems, as well as unplanned pregnancies when you are not yet ready to have a baby. Practicing safe sex reduces your chances of fertility problems, as some sexually transmitted diseases can cause problems with infertility if left untreated.

Using protection, contraceptives and getting tested will all help to ease worries and help you feel more confident about yourself and your body. Having a healthy lifestyle is good for your overall wellbeing, so don’t forget to take care of yourself and your sexual health too.
