6 Ways to Help Women Around the World

Around the world, women and girls are disproportionately faced with a lack of opportunity and political disempowerment. There are many reasons for this. Historically, men have typically been given access to leadership roles, whereas women have been expected to maintain the homemaker position. This has led to the continual disenfranchisement of women who seek to further their futures and develop sociopolitical autonomy. This is especially true in areas around the world where women face even fewer opportunities than in progressive countries. If you want to make a difference and help women claim better lives, consider the following actions.

You can make a difference in the lives of women around the world by applying your power and getting involved. There are countless ways to do this, but the following are some of the most impactful approaches to take. Follow these tips if you want to help improve the way the women and girls live.

Get Involved in Charity

One of the most effective ways to help is to find a charity that focuses on serving women and girls. There are plenty of charity organizations that do this with various areas of specialization. If you are particularly passionate about empowering families in order to help women, for example, there are many charities devoted to doing exactly this. Philanthropists such as Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva have been noted for working directly with families to improve career opportunities, medical care and education. Women benefit from such efforts, too, by gaining access to essential resources that are needed in the community.

Expand Your Horizons

When you are aiming to help women and girls around the world, it is essential that you take steps to expand your horizons. You already know what issues women face in your own environment, but the issues that are relevant throughout the rest of the world are likely entirely different. Rather than make assumptions about the lives of women in other parts of the world, do your research and educate yourself in order to better understand their experiences. This will help you be a better advocate and help more effectively when it comes to empowering women and girls.

Donate for Basic Needs

It is an unfortunate fact that many women throughout the world do not have access to period products. When menstruation arrives, it can become a major disruption of a woman’s life. There are many organizations, however, that are dedicated to addressing this problem and supplying the basic necessities that women need. Donating to these efforts can be revolutionary and help resolve one of the most basic disadvantages facing women around the world. With access to period products, women are no longer thwarted from going to school, attending work or otherwise living their lives as they see fit.

Support Educational Efforts

Much like access to period products, access to education is an imperative that many women throughout the world are forced to do without. Men are often provided with basic schooling and further educational opportunities while women are simply denied the same treatment. Women have a right to education, and supporting that right is one of the most impactful moves you can make. Organizations such as UNESCO, led by Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva, have greatly improved women’s access to educational resources. Supporting such an initiative is a great way to combat discrimination against women and pave the way for better opportunities.

Start Getting Political

It has been said that the personal is political, and in many cases, this is true. If you want to personally empower women, one good place to start is politics. Legislature is regularly passed domestically and internationally that impacts the lives of women negatively. Whether it has to do with education, health care or reproductive rights, you should be aware of the laws that are currently in place that affect women around the world. More importantly, though, you should be aware of proposed laws that you can have a say in by voting, protesting or campaigning.

Empower Women in Your Life

Perhaps the most impactful move you can make to empower women is to start with the women and girls in your own life. You can make a huge difference in their lives simply by being encouraging and supportive. Women and girls face big and small obstacles every day, but you can mitigate the impact of such disadvantages by voicing your support and helping them succeed. Be attentive to all of the women and girls in your life if you want to start empowering them around the world, too. Your support could make a world of difference in their lives.

Women and girls often face a host of disadvantages that their male counterparts do not encounter. Though this is discouraging, much can be done to combat the problem and empower them. These strategies are just a few you can adopt to make the world a better place for women and girls everywhere.
