“For nearly two years, Mr. MacLeod has performed his duties as Canadian Secretary to The Queen with honour and distinction and I am pleased that he has agreed to continue in this role,” said the Prime Minister. “Royal Tours offer a unique opportunity to demonstrate the enduring ties between the Royal Family and Canadians and to celebrate this important aspect of our shared heritage, culture and identity. As Canadian Secretary to The Queen, and Chair of the Diamond Jubilee Committee, Mr. MacLeod will play a crucial role in preparations for the celebration of The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012, the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty’s reign as Queen of Canada.”

Mr. MacLeod was first appointed as Canadian Secretary to the Queen on March 31, 2009. He was also appointed Usher of the Black Rod on March 26, 2008. He served thirty-one years in the Public Service of Canada, having spent twenty-two years with the Department of Canadian Heritage, most notably as Chief of Protocol. He is the recipient of several honours and decorations, including Commander of the Royal Victorian Order.

The Canadian Secretary to The Queen coordinates the planning and delivery of Royal Tours to Canada through close partnership with the Prime Minister’s Office, various government officials and the Royal Households.”
