The 2027 Women’s World Cup is set to be the biggest and best yet. Due to be played in Brazil for the first time ever, can Spain retain their crown on South American soil? With a few great teams in the running, it’s not going to be easy.

Not only has the women’s game grown dramatically in recent years but there has also been a surge in talent. It means that more nations than ever are now capable of not just competing but winning the tournament altogether.

There is no doubt gamblers will be taking a greater interest as well. For those interested in online soccer betting, there will be plenty of markets to enjoy during the tournament. But right now, you may be wondering who are the teams most likely to lift the trophy.

Can Brazil Win on Home Soil?

Brazil’s history in the men’s World Cup is well known. The country has won the competition five times in its history, more than anyone else. Along with this, they have hosted the tournament twice, most recently in 2014.

In the women’s game, Brazil has never won nor hosted the tournament. The team will be hoping that 2027 brings their first triumph as they host it for the first time. The closest they have come before was in 2007, losing to Germany 2-0 in the final.

Priced at 10/1, the country is bringing through a new generation of talent. When combined with existing talent, the squad is building a chemistry they are hoping will bring the World Cup back to South America.

Spain’s Golden Generation in Full Bloom

Brazil may be on home soil but they are far from the favorites. That honor goes to Spain. For a long time, the United States was the dominant team in women’s football, having won it on four occasions. However, Spain now holds the top spot in the world rankings.

That’s in no small part due to their incredible depth of talent. Spain had four players in the top six of the recent Ballon d’Or Féminin, including the best player in the world, Aitana Bonmati. The investment in youth football has hugely paid off.

By 2027, all of their main stars will still be in their prime, with other young players coming through. At 3/1, it will be the wise bet for anyone who loves sports betting. Their team spirit is no doubt helped by so many of the teams also playing for Barcelona, with 10 players from the club in the latest national squad.

Despite this talent, the team isn’t unbeatable. They went into the recent European Championships as favorites but couldn’t beat England in the final, losing on penalties. Despite that, they remain the strongest option in the betting market.

The Joint Second Favorites at 6/1

Spain may be the favorites but it’s hard to choose a second favorite between the U.S.A. and the aforementioned back-to-back European Champions, England. The Americans have a past history of success, whereas England has recently had a taste for silverware.

Both teams remain strong and England will be looking for redemption, having lost to Spain in the 2023 final. The team has remained strong under the leadership of Sarina Wiegman, showing impressive tactical versatility along with both immense physical and mental strength.

The United States is coming from a much different position. In many ways, the 2023 loss marked the end of an era. An early exit in the Round of 16 vs Sweden meant a transition period was inevitable. Players such as Emily Fox are now leading a new generation that is hoping to match the success of those ruthless American teams of the past.

The U.S. was once the clear leader when it came to both talent and infrastructure, giving respect to the women’s game long before other countries followed. Other teams may have caught up in terms of the talent pool but they remain one of the best teams in the world.

The Rest of the Contenders

The only team that hasn’t been mentioned that has shorter odds than Brazil is France. They have long been a team that has looked good on paper but hasn’t been able to transfer that into meaningful results. Not only have the team never won a major tournament but they have never reached a final. Even so, they could be dark horses for the World Cup.

One country that has achieved immense success is Germany, having won the World Cup twice before, along with the European Championships eight times. Their talent pool may not be at its peak but they remain a dangerous team.

One other potential winner is Sweden. World Cup runners-up once and in third place four times, they will be hoping to add to their 1984 Euros win for some more long-awaited silverware. With some world-class talent, they could perhaps be the best bet for those looking to back an underdog.
