Women in Construction: Women in Construction (WIC) Week is an opportunity to amplify women’s voices and show appreciation for one another and all they do to make construction better, says a representative with the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC).

This year’s theme is “Envision Equity.”

NAWIC and companies across the country are putting on a wide variety of events between now and March 12 to mark the occasion. To learn more about WIC Week and to find events in your area, click here.

When you think of an industry dominated by men, construction might be one of the first that comes to mind. Of all the people working in construction, women comprise only 10.3%. Of all the people who work in construction, women comprise only a small 10% of the workforce. Even smaller is the number of female construction workers on the front lines of a job site—there is only one woman for every 100 employees on the field. While women still only make up a little more than 10% of the construction workforce, more join the industry as superintendents, project managers, department directors, CEOs and trades workers every year.

In 2022, women in construction are not only working to build some of the country’s largest and most important projects. They also are leaders in another important area: helping to recruit more women into the industry. Many women in construction act as mentors, teachers and advocates to help elevate the industry and make it an attractive career option for other women.

Construction Champions 2022 can be seen here. Although they are some of construction’s youngest employees, these women have already made a mark on the industry.

Women’s Organizations Nationally recognized groups like the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) and Women Construction Owners & Executives USA provide mentorship, marketing and networking opportunities to help women who are new to the construction industry.
