Never Look Your Age – How to Stay Young for Longer

As much as we would like to believe in gender equality, we cannot deny the fact that women are expected to pay twice as much attention to the way they look, especially after a certain age. The Hollywood prototype of eternally youthful only seems to work on men as women are often criticized if they show their age too soon.

And, while you won’t be able to conceal your wrinkles and pooch forever, this doesn’t mean that you have to neglect the way you look after a certain age. Embrace your 50s, 60s or 70s with the same grace and smile on your face as you welcomed your 30s, and make the most of every decade. Here are some easy tips that will make you look and feel younger.

Get More Sleep

Resting your body and brain is mandatory if you want to live a long and healthy life. However, most adults don’t enjoy a good night’s sleep for a variety of reasons ranging from sleeping disorders to stress and anxiety.

Luckily, there are plenty of ways to shut down your brain activity and get some well-deserved rest. Don’t forget to turn off all your tech devices and screens at least one hour before sleep and indulge in a glass of milk, a cup of chamomile tea or a small glass of wine to relax your body and help you fall asleep easier.

Remember that, regardless of your age, you should get at least seven hours of sleep per night, although eight would be ideal.

Stay Hydrated

We cannot stress enough the importance of keeping your skin and body hydrated, especially during the summertime.

Drinking at least 67 ounces of water daily will maintain your skin’s optimum hydration level and prevent the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and saggy skin. Make sure to also look after your skin externally by applying a moisturizing facial cream and wearing sunscreen.

Eat more Fish and Seafood

Fish is a rich source of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids that will look after your skin, eyes, brain, and bones. It is also a clean source of proteins so it will keep you full without the extra calories. On the other hand, oysters are a prime source of zinc that can potentially slow the progression of macular degeneration, maintaining your eyes healthy and strong.

Work on Your Mobility

If you don’t want to invest in pills, medical products, and accessories for elderly citizens, you should stay active at all costs. Running, jogging, Pilates, Yoga, swimming or stretching represent mild physical activities that will keep you in shape and improve your mobility.

They will also help you release endorphins, the “happy” hormones that will boost your energy levels and get you into a better mood by fighting anxiety, stress, and even depression.

Don’t be Afraid to Experiment with Your Style

Who said that women can’t wear their hair long after the age of 50 or should stop wearing heels? Growing older doesn’t necessarily mean to stop doing the things you want just to fit into a grey society.

If you like experimenting with new fashion trends and bold styles, you should continue doing so until you find your signature. Wear long skirts or shorter skirts, dungarees, statement earrings or necklaces or, on the contrary, remain comfy in a pair of ripped boyfriend jeans and sneakers. Adopt a new hairstyle daily and change your hair color as often as you feel fit.

As long as you feel young at heart, you shouldn’t be afraid of adopting a bolder look that doesn’t necessarily fit into society’s standards and patterns.
