Three Reasons to get your Home Ready for Winter

Now that fall is officially here, it’s time once again to prepare your home for the best, and worst, of the winter season. Halloween will soon be up, followed by Thanksgiving and Christmas; not to mention a whole host of family gatherings and celebrations that you are sure to have planned to celebrate the holiday season. As beautiful as winter is, it is also incredibly unpredictable. Blackouts, heavy snowfall and strong winds can all wreak havoc on your humble abode – spoiling your plans if you aren’t properly prepared. So even if you are a long-weathered homeowner, or perhaps this is your first winter in your own place, follow these three tips, and your home will be ready for anything this season.

Welcome in the season

Now is the time of year when you should truly welcome in the winter season. Sure, those long dark nights can be depressing, but there’s nothing better than coming home to a cozy home after a long day at work. Why not add blankets and candles to your living room or family room to help create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Don’t underestimate the impact of fresh flowers or seasonal greenery in your hall or bedrooms, to give your spaces a quick pick up and bring the outdoors inside. Why not apply your newly acquired creative touch to your holiday preparations too? There are hundreds of beautiful, not too expensive, Thanksgiving ideas that you can make at home – great for keeping the kids entertained too – to give your home a unique touch this year. Welcome in the season and truly enjoy your home.

Be prepared for adverse weather

Cold spells, ice and unexpected storms are a given over the holidays. Sure, your depleted toolbox might get you so far, but are you really prepared for adverse weather or more serious conditions? Make sure you keep a list of emergency phone numbers to hand just in case you need to make that quick call. Take time when the weather is still fair to fix those loose tiles and clear fallen leaves from your pipes and gutters to avoid blockages. Get in the garage and give your vehicle a quick check over to ensure its road worthy for those winter drives. It’s also worth keeping a few essentials such blankets and shovels to hand to help you out in the event of more heavy snow fall. Don’t forget the flashlight either, and check out Fenix store for a selection; after all, you want to be as safe as possible. There’s no need to go overboard, but some careful preparation will keep you in good stead.

Enjoy your home

Preparation done, candles lit, table decorated? Well done! Now take some well-earned time to sit back, relax and enjoy your winter-ready home. All that careful planning and preparation has paid off. This truly is the season for family and friends, so get a new batch of cookies in the oven, stock up the fire and make merry with your nearest and dearest, safe in the knowledge that this year you are a lot more prepared for whatever the season will throw your way.
