We all have dreams, but not all of us pursue them. Women are often guilty of putting their own needs and aspirations onto a back burner as we put others’ needs first. Raising kids, looking after elderly parents and a partner can take precedence over our own ambitions and career aspirations. When you are ready to strike out on your own, it is too late, and you don’t have the energy anymore. But, it’s never too late. The obstacles in your way are self-inflicted. Once you identify these obstacles and conquer them, you are free to pursue the life – and career – you want.
You Lack Confidence
Confidence is usually the biggest obstacle for women. Whereas men tend to be brimming with confidence and are ready to conquer the world, women are far more likely to say, “I can’t do it” and give up.
A lack of self-belief is a big obstacle to overcome, but you can do it. Start believing in yourself. You can do anything you want, no matter how impossible it might seem right now. Spend five minutes each day telling your reflection how amazing you are. Eventually, you will believe your mirror self!
You Are Afraid
The problem with fear is that it cripples us. Fear prevents us from moving forwards or taking a risky step into the unknown. If fear is holding you back, you are not alone. A fear of failure keeps us in a job we hate or a relationship that is no longer working.
Accept that failure is part of life. Failure is simply another lesson. Learn from your mistakes and move on. Imagine if Einstein had given up when his experiments failed? Where would we be now? Exactly!
You Have No Money
A lack of money is a huge barrier to making a life change or pursuing a new career. But, it needn’t be. There are always solutions to problems, so don’t let a lack of funds prevent you from making a career change or starting a business. Look for funding opportunities such as crowdfunding or small business loans for women with bad credit. If you are determined enough, you can make this happen.
You Lack Support
Support is vital, but it is not always forthcoming. Partners don’t want to help, or your family is a thousand miles away. Try not to let a lack of support stop you from taking a step forward.
Look for help outside the home or connect with people like you who want to make changes in their life or start a new business. The internet and social media make it incredibly easy to find mentors and support networks. There is always someone online ready to answer a question or provide some solace when it’s not working out as you intended.
You Lack Focus
We all lack focus at times, especially if we feel overwhelmed by life. Deal with a lack of focus by writing down your goals and a clear vision of how you intend on overcoming problems. Keep this list front and center to remind you to stay focused.
You have the power to change your life, so make this the first day of the rest of your life!
