Oakley Leading the Way in Sunglasses & Tech
Amidst all the rumours that Google Glass is dead, news reports are now suggesting that progress is being made with Google Glass 2.0, and there may even be plans to show it off in the near future. Excitingly, Google has announced that it has entered into a partnership with The Luxottica Group, the owner of some of the worlds most sought after eyewear lines including Oakley. With some of the world’s top designers now working on this project, it is expected that Google Glass 2.0 will not only be functional, but stylish as well.
A Combined Mission According to the Wall Street Journal, The Luxottica Group has agreed to ‘develop, design and distribute’ new versions of Google’s web connected eyewear. And, the Google Glass team has confirmed this on Google + stating that their mission for Google Glass combined perfectly with The Luxottica Group’s ability to conceive a great product and then distribute it to the masses. With Luxottica having such a large retail distribution make up, it is believed that Google Glass 2.0 may finally be available to the general population at some point in the near future.
What Can We Expect
Whilst there has been no official word as of yet on what we can expect from Google Glass 2.0, what we do know is that brands like Oakley and Ray-Ban, both distributed by The Luxottica Group, are amongst the most desirable in the world. For Google to team up with such a well-established company makes us believe that the eyewear that is produced will make just as much of a fashion statement as it will a technological one.
Ever since the concept of Google Glass was first released to the media, people were intrigued about what this new piece of tech could offer them. And, we all know how well designed the world’s most desirable sunglasses are – you only have to look at a site like Red Hot Sunglasses to see some of the styles that have been released by these brands over the years. If past history is anything to go by, we can expect these glasses to be less of a technical headpiece, and more of a beautiful device that is popular with consumers worldwide.
Luxottica Group and Google Glass have clearly entered into a great partnership with The Luxottica Group. In fact, the brands they represent currently dominate the designer sunglasses market. They are sold in stores throughout the world, and Luxottica also controls a number of popular retail stores including Sunglass Hut and LensCrafters. Can you imagine a future where you walk into a store for a pair of sunglasses and come out with a Google Glass device instead? This is a possibility and it may not be too far away.
Whilst no release date has yet been announced for Google Glass 2.0, Google has announced that more glass styles will be available for Explorers, so it seems feasible to believe that the designs will be released before Glass goes public. It’s an exciting time for both the tech and fashion industries, and we can’t wait to see what the future has in store.
