Stand Up Against Police Violence in Ukraine! The government in Ukraine is cracking down on protests using cruel and violent techniques. Demand an end to human rights violations in Ukraine.
Tear-gassed. Smoke-bombed. Attacked with bats. Forced to take off their clothes to be beaten in below-freezing weather. And sometimes, even shot to death. In Ukraine, protesters are risking extreme levels of violence to stand up for what they believe in.
In the last week, the largely peaceful protests against President Viktor Yanukovych have taken a dangerous turn. Though there has been aggression from both sides, the government’s special “Berkut” police force has been accused of beating, torturing and even shooting demonstrators. One video shows a naked protester being brutalized by riot police after they forced him to strip in the snow.
The police are even attacking journalists and medical workers. One Russian video journalist tol d the Guardian that he, along with a group of protesters, was abducted by police, beaten with a truncheon and told that he would be “thrown under the ice” and killed. He suffered a broken nose and lost more than $5,000 worth of equipment. And he made it out alive — other victims haven’t been so lucky.
We have to stand against this continuing cycle of violence. Demand a restoration of human rights in Ukraine!
Please help Ukraine reestablish human rights!
Ukrainians are demanding the resignation of the government and of the President as well as the punishment of those in charge of “Berkut” special forces and others behind the abusive treatment of protesters.
There is plenty of evidence which shows that the human rights of those who protest against the government have been violated. Members of the “Berkut” special forces have tortured protestors, with several people dying.
This video shows members of the “Berkut” special forces mocking a protester who has been stripped naked except for his boots in -10 C degrees (14F) on the street. During World War II, the Nazis used to do the very same thing to Soviet soldiers.
In recent speeches made by the Prime Minister, the President and other government officials, they all pretend that that Ukraine is a democratic country. As the abusive and inhumane treatment of the protester in the video too clearly shows, this is not the case at all.
The torture the protester in the video endured is just one example of many, many cases in which Ukrainian citizens have been cruelly and violently treated by state forces. Please sign the petition to stand with the anti-government protesters and demand Ukraine restore human rights.
Restore Human Rights in Ukraine!
People get tortured by state forces!
Restore Human Rights in Ukraine!
