Expert Group Meeting on the Integration of Statistical and Geospatial Information
New York, 30 October-1 November 2013The United Nations Statistics Division is organising the first meeting of the United Nations Expert Group on the Integration of Statistical and Geospatial Information, to be held from 30 October – 1 November 2013 in New York. This Expert Group, recently established in pursuance of Decision 44/101 taken by the UN Statistical Commission and Decision 3/107 taken by the UN Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management, is composed of representatives of both statistical and geospatial communities. It aims to carry the work on developing a statistical spatial framework as a global standard for the integration of statistical and geospatial information. The purpose of this first meeting of the EG is to finalise the proposed Terms of Reference and review the progress of a detailed work plan against the following topics: geospatially coding statistics, geographic data linking, common geographic classifications, metadata standards and interoperability, confidentiality and data access, etc.

Expert Group Meeting on Revising the Principles and Recommendations for Population and Housing Censuses
New York, 29 October-1 November 2013The United Nations Statistics Division is organising the United Nations Expert Group Meeting on Revising the Principles and Recommendations for Population and Housing Censuses. It will be held fro 29 October – 1 November 2013 in New York. The main purpose of the meeting is to lay down the framework for the revised set of international principles and recommendations for population and housing censuses in the 2020 round censuses, that will take place from 2015 to 2024, The experts will take stock of the experiences in conducting population and housing censuses in the 2010 round and adopt an outline for the revision, as well as distributing specific tasks related to the preparation of the content of the recommendations among themselves. The revised Principles and Recommendations for Population and Housing Censuses: the 2020 Round will be the major international statistical standard guiding the work on population and housing censuses in 2020 round.
