Strategic Planning for Unexpected Opportunities, with Jan Campbell
THURS MARCH 7, 2013 • TIME: 6:30PM-8:30PM
Toronto Board of Trade – 77 Adelaide Street West
What do you do if an unexpected opportunity shows up in the middle of your career path?
Jan Campbell set out on her career path with a specific destination in mind, to be a hospital administrator. So when during the course of that career, unexpected opportunities presented themselves she had a decision to make: to stick with the path she’d laid out or explore a new direction.
Thankfully, Jan had a plan for that too. She will share with us the strategies that drove her forward, how she created her career, not by following a set path but by building the path as she went: how she sought out mentors to guide her along the way; shaped her understanding of herself; created a strong network; found and rose to challenges; and how, ultimately, she ended up running her own business and doing what she loves.
In 2000, Jan began Strategisense, a consulting business that supports organizational effectiveness and leadership development within the public and not-for-profit sectors. She and her team work with CEO’s, Executive Directors, Boards, and teams from senior leaders to the frontline, helping clients to, among other things, navigate change, assess performance, overcome challenges, think strategically, and achieve balance in their organizations and careers.
Prior to starting her consulting firm, Jan was the founding Executive Director of a unique research centre focused on home and community care at the University of Toronto and also spent several years in a preeminent global consulting firm focusing on organizational effectiveness and strategy consulting for some of Canada’s most high profile health care organizations.
Jan holds a Master of Business Administration as well as a Bachelor of Science Degree from McMaster University.
She has been certified to administer leadership competency assessment tools for teams and individuals. She is a professionally trained leadership coach through the Coaches Training Institute’s Coactive Coaches Training program, and a member of both the International Coaches Federation and the Canadian Association of Management Consultants. She has also served on numerous local, municipal and provincial committees and Boards.
She is currently a Trustee of the University Health Network and is also a member of the Progressive Consultants Network of Toronto, which is a group of seasoned consultants that focus on the not-for-profit and public sectors at local, national and international levels.
