When I decided to run as a Liberal candidate in 2011, I certainly didn’t expect it to be easy. A quick glance at Wikipedia will tell you that historically, my riding of Carleton-Mississippi Mills is as blue as they come. I traveled all 1500 square kilometres of the riding speaking to the residents and when one gentleman remarked that he would vote Liberal ‘when pigs fly‘, I decided to make it happen.
(This is a picture from December 2010, in the run up to the 2011 election.)
The hard work paid off. At the close of that election, with Liberal returns down across most of the country, the Liberal results in Carleton-Mississippi Mills were significantly better than the national average.
My campaign was one of the few which saw an increase in Liberal vote share and a decrease in the Conservative vote share.
No other Candidate Standing for Leadership can make the same claim.
Leadership is serious business. I joined this race to change the course my country is on and I’m determined to see it through. But with just a couple of weeks to go, I wanted to remind everyone that having a sense of humour can make all the difference in the world!
With best regards,
Karen
PS – I hope you will consider donating in support of my campaign. Every contribution over $20 is eligible for a tax credit of up to 75% and the funds will help keep the campaign gaining ground!
