Statement by the Prime Minister of Canada on Canadian Academy Award nominees

Ottawa, OntarioPrime Minister Stephen Harper issued the following statement today congratulating Canadian Academy Award nominees:
“On behalf of all Canadians, I offer my congratulations to director Kim Nguyen and producers Pierre Even and Marie-Claude Poulin for the nomination of their film Rebelle (also known as War Witch) as Best Foreign Language Film.
“I would also like to congratulate composer Mychael Danna, who earned a nomination for Best Original Score for his work in Life of Pi, and Best Original Song for ‘Pi’s Lullaby’.
Guillaume Rocheron was also nominated for Best Visual Effects for his contribution to the film Life of Pi, which is based on the book by Canadian author Yann Martel, is nominated for Best Picture.“Finally, I would like to congratulate film-maker Yan England for his movie Henry, and producer and co-director Ariel Nasr for his film Buzkashi Boys, which are both nominated in the best Short Film – Live Action category.
“The talent coming out of Canada is truly impressive. Our Government recognizes the significant cultural and economic contribution that film and television production makes in our society and that is why we continue to support artists, creators, and leaders of the cultural sector.
“Today’s nominees have positioned themselves among the best in the world in the film industry and I wish them the best of luck at the upcoming Academy Awards on February 24, 2013, and in all their future endeavors.”
