World Pulse and I invite you to submit a story for the campaign to bring voice to women in your region who are survivors of violence, and to highlight the solutions that can truly bring change for women’s lives. World Pulse will be channeling your story to major media outlets, advocacy groups, and policy makers to ensure that your perspectives are heard.
The campaign is looking for submissions that speak to specific forms of violence that you have personally survived or witnessed first-hand in your community, whether this is domestic violence, child marriage, female genital mutilation, violence in the media, acid violence, street harassment, human trafficking, or other forms that threaten you personally or women in your culture.
While violence against women is a global problem, each person’s perspective and local experience is unique and we seek to highlight the various forms of violence that are perpetrated against women, as well as highlight visions for change and proven solutions at the grassroots level that need support and funding from those with resources and power.
World Pulse has found that the stories with the most impact upon readers contain three key elements:
1. Your personal testimony and perspective
How have you experienced violence, either personally or witnessed first-hand in your community and culture? Whether you are a survivor of violence or a witness to the violence in your community, YOU have an important story to tell.
2. Context
What is the underlying situation in your country and community that perpetuates violence against women? Are there cultural, political, or other factors that are essential to understanding this form of violence, and the larger problem of gender-based violence?
3. A way forward
What is your vision for change? What small and big steps can people take to begin changing the dialogue around violence against women? What can the international community do to support women in your community?
It takes tremendous courage to speak out on an issue that is too often shrouded in silence, shame and stigma. In bringing voice to these issues and showing a way forward for survivors and their supporters, we hope that we can transform society, one person at a time. At the conclusion of the digital action campaign, World Pulse will be channeling your stories and recommendations to global decision-makers.
The world is listening. Speak up and be heard!
The deadline to participate is December 10th.
For more information on how to participate, please visit the Campaign Submission Guidelines page here.
Kind regards,
Jennifer
