What’s it like to grow up in the slums of Nairobi?
In Spring 2011, WFP gave a small video camera to a 12-year-old girl named Molly and asked her to record scenes from her daily life. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing more of her videos which offer a window into one of the poorest places on earth. Welcome to Molly’s World.
NAIROBI—The sprawling Mathare Slum is a city unto itself. Located in the Kenyan capital Nairobi, it’s home to over 500,000 people living on the edge of survival.
One of them is Molly, a 12-year-old girl who likes to play with her friends and who studies hard in school, where she gets free and nutritious meals from WFP.
In spring 2011, Molly was given a video camera and asked to film scenes from her life. The result is an astonishing series of videos that show us what it’s like to eat, play, grow up and dream in one of the poorest places in the world.
Today the first of Molly’s videos(the one you see on this page) was posted on her Youtube channel.
Every two weeks we will add a new episode. These videos will also be posted on WFP’s Facebook page and on Twitter.
You can leave a comment or question for Molly on Facebook, or on the Molly’s World YouTube channel. Alternatively, you can send in your thoughts via Twitter (send them @wfp and use the #mollysworld hashtag).
