1. What’s on on InterNations
Are they building a cyber harem?
Most of our female members will have asked themselves this question at least once in their InterNations history. Why do I only get twinkles from men with personal networks consisting nearly exclusively of female members? Are they building a cyber harem? Feel free to join in this light-hearted discussion in the Small Talk section of our World Forum – maybe you can enlighten our female member base!A recent post in our Travel Forum gives InterNations members the chance to help educate kids around the world. All you need to do is send a postcard to the school featured in the thread, telling the kids about the city or country you live in, its history, why you are there, what you like about it and what you think should be different. A school teacher and his students in Denver will thank you for making their Social Studies lessons that much more vivid! And if you know of another teacher who might benefit from this or a similar campaign, don’t hesitate to post their address as well!
2. Events and Get-togethers around the World
4 Years InterNations
In September 2007, InterNations went live for the first time. Exactly 4 years and more than 300,000 members later, we’ve come a long way. Some of you have been with us from the very beginning, others have joined us along the way, but thanks to all of you, InterNations has become what it is today and will continue to grow in the future. If that’s no reason to celebrate, then what is!Now here is a taste of how InterNations Communities around the World celebrate this date: Our Beijing members, for example, are in for a “midnight surprise” at their InterNations Beijing 4th Anniversary Get-together at The Beach Lounge & Bar. Our Milan Community has opted for the cool and elegant surroundings of Tip and Coffee for their Anniversary Apero, while Copenhagen wouldn’t settle for anything less than the “best hotel in Denmark 2010” for their 4th Birthday Party.
With Success Story, our Moscow Community is celebrating the InterNations anniversary alongside its own 3-year anniversary of expat events in Moscow. InterNations co-founder Malte Zeeck is due to join in the festivities, which will be topped by a raffle extravaganza with fantastic prizes. InterNations New York has also chosen a combined approach for the occasion: The Special Event is held not only in honor of our 4th anniversary, but also to pay tribute to 189 years of Brazilian Independence. Hence the Brazilian dancers…
3. Special Feature
An Anniversary of a Different Kind
A decade ago, two hijacked airplanes hit the Twin Towers in New York City, causing the World Trade Centre to collapse. The impact of the events of September 11, 2001 has been felt on many levels: The personal tragedy of the immediate victims and their close friends and families stands alongside the national tragedy which affected the country and arguably the whole world. With the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks upon us, this is a good moment to reflect on what happened then and what has happened since – both on a personal and a global level. Have you, or anyone you know, been affected by the events on that day? How do you judge America’s and the world’s reaction to the attacks? To what extent is the world as we know it today a product of 9/11 – think security, debates around personal data protection, our attitudes towards religion, the debt crisis in the US, etc. Follow the thread 10 years since 9/11 and let us know what you think, or simply start your own discussion in the InterNations World Forum.
