This week President Obama traveled to the Midwest where he met with Americans in rural towns and communities in Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois. The purpose of his trip, dubbed the Economic Rural Tour 2011, was to talk to people from different walks of life about what is happening in our country right now.

Highlights

In addition, President Obama signed an executive order extending the Federal Government’s commitment to equal opportunity, diversity, and inclusion is critical for the Federal Government as an employer:

Tune In to President Obama’s Town Hall Meetings
President Obama wants to hear from Americans about how national economic policies are affecting life in your communities. He is spending the next three days on the road in the Midwest, and will participate in four town hall meetings, two on Monday and two on Wednesday. Each of the question and answer sessions will be live streamed on whitehouse.gov/live.

Earlier last week, Vice President Biden departed for Beijing, China, the first stop on a nine-day swing through Asia that also includes visits to Mongolia and Japan.

Getting More Bang for U.S. Bucks
It’s been almost a year since President Obama signed legislation to create the State Small Business Create Initiative (SSBCI), an innovative program that enhances state efforts to get billions of dollars of additional capital into the hands of small businesses owners across the country.

Continuing the Conversation on Immigration Reform – The African Immigrant Diaspora Voice
This past Friday, White House and senior administration officials – including representatives from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Department of Education, and HHS Office of Refugee Resettlement – met with African community leaders to discuss immigration issues specific to the African immigrant and refugee population.

Take a Tip from the White House on Foursquare
The White House is now on Foursquare, a location-based social networking website, which is the latest way for you to engage with the administration.

West Wing Week 8/19/11 or “Get On the Bus”
The President welcomed the Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers to the White House before embarking on a three day Rural Bus Tour across the midwestern states of Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois.
