Afghan Embassy Hosts Book Launch
The Embassy of Afghanistan in Washington, D.C. hosted a book launch party to celebrate Mrs. Caroline Firestone’s latest book, Afghans and Americans United. This is Mrs. Firestone’s third book on Afghanistan.
Afghans and Americans United profiles various American diplomats, business leaders, and non-profit organizations that are dedicated to improving the lives of Afghans, as well as important female Afghan leaders who are making a difference in Afghanistan.Ambassador Eklil Hakimi expressed his deep appreciation for Mrs. Firestone’s commitment to helping the people of Afghanistan: “While we express our thanks and appreciation to the United States for their support, I would like to offer my special thanks to Mrs. Caroline Firestone for her devotion and efforts, especially her new book Afghans and Americans United.”
Afghans and Americans United profiles various American diplomats, business leaders, and non-profit organizations that are dedicated to improving the lives of Afghans, as well as important female Afghan leaders who are making a difference in Afghanistan.
Mrs. Sultana Hakimi, who was introduced by her husband, Ambassador Eklil Hakimi, said that “Through beautiful stories and images Afghans and Americans United demonstrates the progress that Afghanistan has achieved with the help of Americans, and the potential of this strong partnership between our two countries.”
Ambassador Melanne Verveer, Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues, retired General George Casey and Mrs. Leslie Schweitzer, Chairman of the Friends of the American University of Afghanistan, spoke in praise of Mrs. Firestone’s accomplishments and discussed the strength of Afghan female leaders and the inspiring stories in Mrs. Firestone’s book.
Over fifty books were sold at the event and all proceeds from the book sales went to the American University of Afghanistan in Kabul. The American University of Afghanistan is raising funds to develop the International Center for Afghan Women’s Economic Development.
