A Celebration of Women™

is elated to Celebrate the Life of this powerhouse, a self-made success story that is now devoting her life to the betterment of the lives of all women. Through her coaching techniques, this woman is addressing one of our world’s most critical subjects today in every woman’s life: Financial Self Sustainability & Success.

Through her programs, as an entrepreneur and founder of Women on Top, she is able to educate, inspire and motivate all women to Take Action in their respective lives.

This Triple-A personality has also found the need in her own life to ‘Rise Above Circumstance‘ when diagnosed with a very rare disease named Sjogrens Syndrome (Similar to Lupus or MS), one that manifests its symptoms from the inside – out with dry mouth, head aches, fatigue, irritability, joint pain and more… a disease that this powerful woman has learned to manage.  After learning to manage her own physical condition, this woman has become able to assist other women suffering from silent illnesses like or similar to hers.

We celebrate being blessed to have this vision of strength here now to help the Women of our World.

Plan a Revolution, Canadian author of Profit Domination tells women, Beacon News

Canadian author Odette Laurie launched her new book Profit Domination by reminding businesswomen that making and breaking New Year’s resolutions will not fetch results.

odette bookInstead she challenges businesswomen to use planning and persistence to drive profits.

Odette Laurie is the founder of Women on Top Business Coaching and a long-time successful entrepreneur.

Profit Domination – How Successful Women Get on Top and Stay There (201 rules for the road) is her first book, and she says it is designed to teach and encourage women in business.

A valuable guide that gives you 166 pages of support, inspiration and but-kicking that will help you find the success you need. CLICK HERE

She added that the book is for every woman who ever had a dream and that it will “guide you, pull you, or shove you up that mountain of success.”

Resolutions don’t work,” Laurie said. “But setting goals and committing to change does. The hardest part in anything we do is the beginning. If you need a new year to make a fresh start, go for it, but understand that a revolution takes time and doesn’t happen overnight on Dec. 31.”

Like a hearty stew, Laurie’s Profit Domination feeds the brain and the heart.

odette cdboxset-webEach bite is a single rule for the road, presented in a colourful, graphic, billboard style that’s easy to read and easy on the eyes. Laurie said that she initially submitted 101 rules to her graphic designer, but soon doubled the size of her book by adding 100 more. She said she has lived the rules, and coaches her clients based on them, and wanted to share them with everyone who wants to elevate their business and life.

The messages are short, memorable, easy to chew on and digest, and include juicy bits like: marry confidence with a solid strategy; be the dog with the bone; know your numbers – all of them; and never deflect a compliment.

Readers can pick up the book, open to any page, and quickly remind themselves that they can make money doing what they love. To see a clip of Laurie talking about her book, visit her Vimeo site.

“It’s heartbreaking to me that people don’t get to achieve their dreams,” Laurie said. “Every day, you can be one step closer to yours, but only if you Take Action.”

Suzanne Evans is a business coach supporting more than 30,000 women enrolled in her programs. She says Laurie’s Profit Domination is about taking control of your money and business, not the other way around.

“There’s no hiding the truth in this book,” she said. “It’s all up to you, so grab your business by the horns. You don’t get to ‘hell yeah’ by waiting your turn.”

Laurie’s own turn came after she rode enough ups and downs and twists and turns to qualify for roller coaster status, but she faced her fears and kicked her “buts” and kept going.

“I had a whole bunch of crappy reality thrown at me in a very short amount of time in 2011,” she said. “I’m no different from anyone else. I just choose to surge ahead, choose to deal with my crap and move on.”

“Success is within the grasp of anyone willing to set goals, build a plan, and do the work. People keep talking about how passion brings success. I’m sorry, but working your butt off is what brings in the money. Yes, you need passion, but also persistence.”

Profit Domination is available via amazon.ca and chaptersindigo.ca. And on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. EST, Laurie will start hosting a free call (held monthly) for women who want to start 2013 on the right foot.

“I’m Odette Laurie, founder of Women on Top. I’m an award-winning entrepreneur with multiple business ventures under my belt. I have a Black Belt in Karate, and a not-so-secret love of chocolate. I started my first enterprise on a whim and grew it into a million dollar empire. I’ve known success. I’ve also tasted failure – and I didn’t like it.

odette bannerI coach women from all walks of life because I have BEEN a woman from all walks of life – an angst-ridden teenager, a mother, a do-it-all wife, a know-it-all divorcée, an academic, an employee, an employer, and so much more.

Today, I coach women who, like you, have a radical desire to succeed no matter what – women who strive to build a business to thrive against all odds. Women who will not fail.”

I sing. Loudly. In the shower, and elsewhere (depending.) Naia Kete and Matchbox Twenty are favourites.

My imaginary celebrity BFF is Julia Roberts. Her smile and laugh are infectious.
I’m loyal, motivated, and bursting with compassion. And I’m a firm believer in radical self-love, and the art of aging gracefully.

I Believe in success.

  • I believe in wanting it all and making it happen.
  • I believe in carving a new path – in letting go of anything in your past that doesn’t serve you now.
  • I believe in your power to manifest the things you want in your life.
  • I believe that financial independence is the most powerful gift you can give to yourself – with or without Prince Charming.

Success with a Silent Illness

Sjögren’s syndrome (pronounced /ˈʃoʊɡrɨnz/ shoh-grinz in English) is a systemic autoimmune disease in which immune cells attack and destroy the exocrine glands that produce tears and saliva. It is named after Swedish ophthalmologist Henrik Sjögren (1899–1986), who first described it.

sjogrens.orgNine out of ten Sjögren’s patients are Women and the average age of onset is after menopause in women, although Sjögren’s occurs in all age groups in both women and men. It is estimated to affect as many as 4 million people in the United States alone, making it the second most common rheumatic disease.

Sjögren’s Syndrome can exist as a disorder in its own right (primary Sjögren’s syndrome) or may develop years after the onset of an associated rheumatic disorder, such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, scleroderma, primary biliary cirrhosis etc. (secondary Sjögren’s syndrome). A similar syndrome, but without the arthritis symptoms, is sicca syndrome.

You see, on the outside I look perfectly normal. On the inside I am not. You don’t see a disease, an abnormality, a crooked walk or a crooked smile. You don’t see degeneration over time, except the aging kind. My issue is a life long, life altering disease that manifests itself from the inside out.

It all started one rainy day when I was sitting at my doctor’s office getting a routine check up. He said to me, ‘How are you feeling Odette? You look a little under the weather.’ I said, ‘oh the usual, you know, after having a second baby I am sure I am just as tired and worn out like all other moms with toddlers and babes’. ‘Hmm’, he said. ‘If you don’t mind I’d like to run a few tests on you.”

About a week later I get a call from my doctor’s secretary. You know when the doctor calls and asks to see you, it usually isn’t good news. I am told I have a disease that is not reversible. I didn’t hear anything else he said after that.

Ten years in, it still frustrates the hell out of me because it interferes with my day to day existence and it has slowed me down. Me? Triple-A personality. Slow down? No way but, ya, it’s the new way. So now I live year after year after year trying to ‘look normal’ and ‘be normal’ but really I am anything but. Ahhhh, but now there is hope! I am only too selfish when I say this; I am really happy that a celebrity athlete has the same disease that I do! Thank God someone with a bigger voice than I will make this disease a household name. Phew, I am all of a sudden not embarrassed anymore. Sorry Venus you made my day but I am sorry that you are stricken with this as it will impair the rest of your life.

I have Sjogrens Syndrome, and so does a professional tennis player!

ODETTE VENUSThis disease is not common, especially among younger women. This is great news for me, that someone else shares my disease because now she will talk about it…to the public. I can hide behind Venus now! My public will now understand. All I have to say is this; I have that disease that Venus has and people will know what I am talking about. It’s true, I already started using this technique. I don’t have to hide the reason why I have to use eye drops several times an hour, why my mouth is dry and I need to always carry a bottle of water with me or have to pause in between speaking gigs to take a sip. I don’t have to fake it anymore when my fingers go white with lack of blood flow or why I need to have a hot bath every night to ease my aching joints.

The disorder should not be confused with the Sjögren–Larsson syndrome, which was also denoted T. Sjögren syndrome in early studies. It shares clinical features with, and is sometimes concurrent with benign lymphoepithelial lesion or Mikulicz disease. They are, however, considered distinct entities.

The hallmark symptom of Sjögren’s syndrome is a generalized dryness, typically including xerostomia (dry mouth) and keratoconjunctivitis sicca (dry eyes), part of what are known as sicca symptoms. Sicca syndrome also incorporates vaginal dryness, chronic bronchitis and lacks signs of arthritis. Sjögren’s syndrome may cause skin, nose, and vaginal dryness, and may affect other organs of the body, including the kidneys, blood vessels, lungs, liver, pancreas, peripheral nervous system (distal axonal sensorimotor neuropathy) and brain.

sjogrens affect bodySjögren’s syndrome is associated with increased levels in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of IL-1RA, an interleukin 1 antagonist. This suggests that the disease begins with increased activity in the interleukin 1 system, followed by an auto-regulatory up-regulation of IL-1RA to reduce the successful binding of interleukin 1 to its receptors. It is likely that interleukin 1 is the marker for fatigue, however, increased IL-1RA is observed in the CSF and is associated with increased fatigue through cytokine induced sickness behavior.

On the other hand, Sjögren’s syndrome is characterized by decreased levels of IL-1ra in saliva, which could be responsible for mouth inflammation and dryness. Patients with secondary Sjögren’s syndrome also often exhibit signs and symptoms of their primary rheumatic disorders, such as SLE, Rheumatoid Arthritis or Systemic Sclerosis.

The pathogenesis of Sjögren’s Syndrome is not well understood. The number of factors involved in the progression of the disease makes it difficult to determine its exact origin and cause.

There is neither a known cure for Sjögren’s syndrome nor a specific treatment to permanently restore gland secretion. Instead, treatment is generally symptomatic and supportive. Moisture replacement therapies such as artificial tears may ease the symptoms of dry eyes.

Some patients with more severe problems use goggles to increase local humidity or have punctal plugs inserted to help retain tears on the ocular surface for a longer time. Additionally, cyclosporine (Restasis) is available by prescription to help treat chronic dry eye by suppressing the inflammation that disrupts tear secretion. Prescription drugs are also available that help to stimulate salivary flow, such as cevimeline (Evoxac) and pilocarpine. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may be used to treat musculoskeletal symptoms.

For individuals with severe complications, corticosteroids or immunosuppressive drugs may be prescribed, and sometimes IVIG (intravenous immunoglobulin).

SjSC_logo02Also, disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) such as methotrexate may be helpful. Hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) is another option and is generally considered safer than methotrexate. Salagen, a man-made form of pilocarpine, can be used to help produce tears as well as saliva in the mouth and intestines. It is derived from the Jaborandi plant.
