A Celebration of Women™

is very pleased to Celebrate the Life of this absolutely amazing soul that was destined from 16 years of age to contribute to positive change in our World. This Life is a wonderful message to all Little Women, to find a way, take action and speak out loud. Mothers, teach Your Daughters as this Tribute comes over 10 years later, allow us to prove that all one’s actions get noticed and are the creation of one’s own Immortality….through only the Power of Love in Caring enough to ACT.

Severn Cullis-Suzuki (born 30 November 1979 in Vancouver, Canada) is an environmental activist, speaker, television host and author. In 1992, at the age of 12, Cullis-Suzuki raised money with members of ECO, to attend the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Along with group members Michelle Quigg, Vanessa Suttie, and Morgan Geisler, Cullis-Suzuki presented environmental issues from a youth perspective at the summit, where she was applauded for a speech to the delegates.

In 1993, she was honoured in the United Nations Environment Programme‘s Global 500 Roll of Honour.

In 1993, Doubleday published her book Tell the World (ISBN 0-385-25422-9), a 32-page book of environmental steps for families.

Cullis-Suzuki graduated from Yale University in 2002 with a B.Sc. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.

After Yale, Cullis-Suzuki spent two years travelling. Cullis-Suzuki co-hosted Suzuki’s Nature Quest, a children’s television series that aired on the Discovery Channel in 2002.

In early 2002, she helped launch an Internet-based think tank called The Skyfish Project.

As a member of Kofi Annan‘s Special Advisory Panel, she and members of the Skyfish Project brought their first project, a pledge called the “Recognition of Responsibility”, to the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg in August 2002.

The Skyfish Project disbanded in 2004 as Cullis-Suzuki turned her focus back to school and enrolled in a graduate course in the University of Victoria to study ‘ethnobotany’ under Nancy Turner.

ACTION CANADA

Action Canada “promotes the kind of idealism that I’ve believed in my whole life,” says Severn, who has been active in environmental and social justice work since kindergarten. “It gives me hope for our national and academic institutions.” Born and raised in Vancouver, Severn began public speaking at age 12 with an internationally acclaimed speech at the 1992 UN Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.

She continues to speak her mind publicly and frequently on personal values and individual responsibility for global social and environmental issues. She earned a BSc in biology at Yale and began an MSc in ethnobotany this year at the University of Victoria. A recipient of the UN Environmental Program’s Global 500 Award, Severn has served on the UN’s Earth Charter Commission and on Kofi Annan’s Special Advisory Panel for the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg. She also co-founded the Skyfish Project (www.skyfishproject.org ), an Internet based think tank that encourages youth to speak out for their future and adopt a sustainable lifestyle.

“The Girl Who Silenced the World for 6 Minutes”.

Severn Cullis-Suzuki Keynote Address

In this lecture, she discusses her personal evolution as an environmentalist as well as reminding us that we have become so ‘disconnected’ from the natural world — that unequivocally sustains us — that our arrogance and ignorance has put us on the brink of planetary disaster. She provokes us to consider our individual consumptive impact on the planet and to explore ways to reduce our personal ecological footprint.
