I used to sing this Helen Reddy song to them at bed time. Larry James ~ “My mother was a piece of work.”, said with Love.

Thank You, Mom! You Shaped Me! Happy Mothers Day – 2012! My mother was a piece of work. She bought me a $10 used bicycle and a large basket when I was ten years old and pushed me out the door to go door-to-door selling boxes of all occasion greeting cards to make extra money. There were 21 cards in a box for $1.00. She put together a make-shift accounting method so I could know when I needed to order new merchandise and how much I was making per item sold. I became immune to the … [Read more...]

Hepatitis Awareness Month, Mothers Can Make a Difference

As we approach Mother’s Day this Sunday and then observe Women’s Health Week (May 13-19), it is an excellent opportunity to focus on actions that can be taken to improve the health and well-being of mothers and their infants. Since May is also Hepatitis Awareness Month, I would like to highlight perinatal hepatitis B transmission and the actions needed to eliminate this preventable disease. An estimated 1.4 million Americans are living with chronic (lifelong) hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. … [Read more...]

CARE – Honor your mother and empower another‏

A mother is a nurturer, protector and so much more. But too many mothers suffer a cruel fate: their own death or the death of their child because the world is failing to help. This year, 1,000 mothers a day will die during pregnancy and childbirth. And 21,000 children younger than age 5 will die every day. Nearly all of these deaths occur in poor countries — and the biggest tragedy is that we know how to prevent almost all of these deaths. You can be the difference for a … [Read more...]

CelebrateLove.com shares Ten Commandments of Co-Parenting‏

Ten Commandments of Co-Parenting Lynn Nelson, Guest Author - 1. Resolve conflicts without putting kids in the middle. This requires being objective about your children’s needs (and not confusing them with your own) and compromising when the situation warrants. Stick with a conflict until it’s resolved; don’t let a problem fester and then punish the other parent passive-aggressively or be difficult in unrelated situations. 2. Treat the other parent … [Read more...]

TODD HEWITT: Mother's Day

Mother's Day Today is just another day on a calendar made by man For all the days past and still yet to come Mourn not for me but rejoice for your day will also come It won't be marked on a calendar so plans need not be made You see God has a plan that has already been laid! Perhaps, by the moonlight on a bright starry night Perhaps on a bright sunny day Perhaps in the Spring during a soft gentle rain With death comes pain and most times grief … [Read more...]

The air and fire signs (Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, Aquarius) dominate as we head into the weekend making this is a good time to flirt or assert yourself socially in other ways. Make the call or the contact now when people (including you) are fairly light on their feet because the emotional temperature will drop over the weekend and people will be less amenable. Saturday brings a reality check but it is no worse than anything we've dealt with over the last month. If you like how … [Read more...]
