Stress Coping Strategies for Busy Women

Today’s woman has more on her plate than ever before in history and unfortunately, this leads to inordinate amounts of stress. Not only do most women hold down a job outside the home but they are also typically mothers and often active in the community. This leaves very little time to take care of themselves and so one stressor is compounded on another and before you know it they are simply ready to break.

Instead of letting life get out of control to that point, take a few moments to consider stress coping strategies busy women around the world are using to manage their lives, to bring them back to a place where they can finally take a breath.

What Works for One May Not Work for Another

The one thing about stress is that not all women have the same triggers. What stresses one woman out may not have any impact on the next. The same holds true for stress coping strategies. What works for you may not work for your best friend, so unfortunately, there may be a time of trial and error so don’t get discouraged.

Consider coping strategies that work for others and try them if it sounds like something that might help. However, even if you aren’t sure, you may want to give it a try. You never know what might offer you the peace and tranquility you are looking for until you try.

Pharmaceuticals Probably Aren’t the Answer

Sometimes your family physician will recommend that you take some sort of tranquilizer or mood altering substance. While these may work in the short term, many are also addictive and difficult to stop once you have built a dependence on them. That leads to stresses above and beyond what you are already facing so maybe you should opt for a more natural remedy.

For example, women of faith often turn to their church for solutions. They seek stress relieving strategies such as Christian meditations and devotions on Deily. This helps them to center and find that place of calm deep down within them. That’s actually the exact opposite of stress and what you hope to accomplish with any stress coping or relieving strategy whatsoever.

Understand the Main Objective

No matter what stress coping strategy you undertake, it is important to understand your main objective in all this. Stress leads to tension which, if not released, is the underlying cause of a great number of problems, physical, emotional and spiritual. Since your main objective is to release stress and relieve tension, have you considered a physical path? Exercise, dance and laugh. By using a variety of muscles throughout the body you are, in effect, forcing them to stretch and eventually relax.

Most successful women who lead hectic lifestyles report that they jog or run regularly, attend dance or aerobics sessions and generally find any and all excuses to laugh. Did you know that laughter is the best release of anxiety? Psychiatrists say that this is why so many people actually laugh at funerals! It’s to release the pain and anxiety of losing someone they love. It’s a known fact and one you should embrace.

There are really so many ways in which to cope with stress that there is sure to be at least one that doesn’t involve being medicated. You are busy and already stressed enough without adding another stressor into the mix. Take time to learn all you can about how others cope with stress and try as many strategies as you can.

Eventually you will find what works for you and this is what you should hold on to. At the first sign of tension take a step back, use your coping strategy and before you know it, life’s many stressors will be passing you by. It’s up to you to find what works but if millions of busy women can do it, so can you.
